Sony allegedly working on Xperia XZ2; tipped to launch at MWC 2018
Sony is allegedly working on a new smartphone dubbed as the Xperia XZ2 and is expected to launch at MWC 2018.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is just around the corner where the tech giants will get to show-off their products in full glory. Sony will also be holding a press event where it is expected to unveil the Xperia XZ Pro. But the latest rumors suggest that we might see another smartphone at the event as well.
According to a tweet sent out by Three Ireland (one of the main Irish mobile operators), a new Sony Xperia XZ2 will see the light of day soon. The information was tweeted on February 2 but was deleted later.
As of now, there is no word on what features the alleged smartphone will carry. However, it's likely to retain the 1080p display from its predecessor with a 5.2-inch real estate. Thus, the smartphone will be smaller than the Xperia XZ Pro, which is expected to sport a 5.7-inch 4K display. There is huge possibility that both Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ Pro will have some things in common, possibly incorporating Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor.
A 5-inch Xperia XZ2 Compact could also be on the cards for MWC 2018. All in all, Sony might be bringing at least three new Xperia smartphones.
The company also recently launched its Xperia L2 smartphone for the Indian consumers at a price of Rs 19,990. It sports a 5.5-inch display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. The device has a 1.5 GHz MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor paired with 3GB RAM and Mali T720-MP2 GPU. On the storage front, the device has 32GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB via the microSD card.
The smartphone runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat and draws power from a 3000mAh battery. The device further uses novo Adaptive Charging technology and Battery Care feature that further works together to maintain the long-term health of the battery.
Optics wise, the smartphone is equipped with a 13MP rear camera, while there is an 8MP front-facing shooter. The camera app lets the user switch between Portrait Selfie mode and Group Selfie mode, Portrait mode and a group selfie mode to fit all your friends in one picture.
Connectivity features on the device include 4G LTE with the Cat13/12 band, Wifi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, USB Type-C port, FM radio and 3.5 mm headphone jack. The smartphone also houses a fingerprint sensor for added security.
