Sony has just launched two new smartphones exclusively for the Indian market. Dubbed as Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus these devices have been targeted at mid-segment customers.

Sony Xperia R1 Plus, Xperia R1 mid-range smartphones launched in India

Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus have been launched in India first and these smartphones will be available across all Sony Center and major mobile stores across the country starting November 10. The handsets will also be available on Amazon and Flipkart.

The Sony Xperia R1 is priced at Rs. 12,990 while Xperia R1 Plus is priced at Rs. 14,990. Both the phones will be available in Black and Silver color options. Further interested customers can also pre-register for the phones starting today October 27 on Amazon. Sony has announced, "Pre-registered customers will be entitled to a special offer."

Both Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus come with a 5.2-inch HD TFT display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and 2.5D glass up front. Under the hood, both of the smartphones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor.

The Xperia R1 Plus offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, while the R1 model offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The storage can be further expanded up to 128GB via micro SD card.

As for the optics, both the devices feature 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, Exmor Sony sensor, 8x digital zoom and LED flash. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling.

The handsets are backed by a 2620mAh with Qnovo Adaptive charging and Quick Charge 3.0 support. They both run on Android Nougat out-of-the-box but the company claims that these handsets are Android 8.0 Oreo upgrade ready.

Connectivity options include USB Type-C port, GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, 4G with support for LTE Cat. 4, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, and Wi-Fi. The handsets miss out on the fingerprint scanner. Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus measure 146x73.2x8.8mm and weighs 154 grams.

Apart from all these, Sony is touting that the new Xperia R1 Plus and R1 also come loaded with Uplink Data Compression (UDC) that supports fast upload and browsing. It helps to download web pages up to 50 percent faster, the company has said.
