Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact prototype leaked ahead of MWC 2018

Sony announced that it will host a press conference at the MWC 2018 tech show on February 26 in Barcelona. The company is yet to reveal the names of these devices that will be unveiled at the tech show next week. However, there are speculations that the company might take the wraps off its flagship smartphones and a few mid-range models as well.

Usually, Sony follows the practice of launching the new Xperia Compact smartphone in the latter half of the year. But the recent word that has hit the internet is that the company might unveil the Xperia XZ2 Compact at the MWC 2018 tech show in Barcelona. Already, we believe that the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Pro flagships might be unveiled next week.

A report by XperiaBlog has pointed out that the Xperia XZ2 Compact might go official in the coming days as its prototype images have surfaced online. The newly leaked image of the smartphone has been spotted next to the Xperia Z5 Compact and it appears to show the presence of a curved bottom. As it shows the prototype of the upcoming smartphone, we cannot take it to be the final version.

However, the prototype of the Xperia XZ2 Compact shows the presence of a rear-mounted fingerprint and the lack of a 3.5mm audio jack. This is similar to what we saw on the Xperia XA2 smartphone series. Also, the design of the alleged Sony smartphone seems to be in line with what we have been coming across in the form of rumors and speculations so long.

The final version of the XZ2 Compact is said to feature relatively smaller bezels at the top of the display. It makes sense as the flagship smartphones to be announced next week are said to feature a full-screen design and 18:9 aspect ratio display. So, we can expect the compact version of the flagship to also come with such a display instead of the 16:9 panel.

When it comes to the rumored specs, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is expected to come with a 5-inch or smaller display and make use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage space. The reports point out that there might be a 19MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie snapper on board. The device is said to get its power from a 3000mAh battery.
