Sony Xperia XZ2 render and specs leaked; MWC 2018 launch expected

Sony is expected to launch a couple of new Xperia smartphones on February 26 during MWC in Barcelona. The company has taken to Twitter to confirm that it will be unveiling three Xperia smartphones at MWC 2018. We expect the Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Pro and, Xperia XZ2 Compact. Well, reliable leakster Evan Blass has now revealed the key specifications of the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact.

Blass has also posted a press render of the Sony Xperia XZ2 via Venture Beat. And, guess what? Apparently, the Japanese manufacturer has finally incorporated a new design on its upcoming flagship. As you can see from the image above, unlike all the Sony devices launched so far, the Xperia XZ2 doesn't feature thick bezels.

Instead, the Xperia XZ2 comes with an elongated display with the trending 18:9 aspect ratio. It also sports a 3D glass on both sides, along with an aluminum frame. The fingerprint scanner is not at the front and it has been moved to the back.

According to the leakster, the Xperia XZ2 Compact will have a similar design with 18:9 display, but some difference in the build quality. Both models will be available in four different color options; Black, Silver, Green, and Pink.

Apart from the render, the specifications of the smartphones have been revealed as well. The Xperia XZ2 will reportedly arrive with a 5.7-inch display, while the smaller Xperia XZ2 Compact will be fitted with 5.0-inch display. The smartphones will sport Full HD LCD displays with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top for extra protection.

Under the hood, the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact are said to come equipped with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 845 processor. The default storage space and RAM configuration details are unknown now.

On the imagery front, both the smartphones are likely to be equipped with a 19MP rear camera f/1.8 aperture. The camera will be capable of 4K HDR video recording and super-slow motion capture in Full HD resolution.

The handsets will be running on Android 8.0 Oreo OS with Sony's own custom skin on top. The Xperia XZ2 is said to pack a 3,180mAh battery, whereas the XZ2 Compact will ship with a smaller 2,870mAh battery

Save for the display size and battery capacity, the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact are almost the same. That said, the latter is said to have a polycarbonate case back and it will not support wireless charging.

Sony Xperia XZ1 First Impression

At the moment, there is not much information on pricing and availability of the Sony smartphones. Thankfully, we will only have to wait till the official launch, which is on Monday.
