Tecno Phantom V Fold2, Phantom V Flip2 Foldable Smartphones Launched with MediaTek Chips, AI Assistant

Tecno has unveiled two new foldable smartphones, the Phantom V Fold2 and Phantom V Flip2. These devices are equipped with Tecno's proprietary AI Suite, marking the first time these features are available out of the box.

The Phantom V Fold2 retains some specifications from its predecessor, such as the Dimensity 9000+ chip, a 7.85-inch inner screen, and a 6.42-inch cover display. However, it now boasts a thinner body at under 6.1 mm when unfolded and less than 12 mm when folded. The device is also lighter at 249 grams, down from nearly 300 grams, despite having a larger battery.

The Phantom V Fold2 includes an Ella AI assistant powered by Google Gemini. Its AI capabilities feature Smart Q&A for real-time answers, AI Summary for PDFs and webpages, AI Translation for live call translations, and AI Writing for text summarisation and creative writing. Additional features like AI Artboard and AI Wallpaper enhance user experience by turning scribbles into drawings and creating custom wallpapers from text prompts.

The camera setup on the Phantom V Fold2 has been redesigned to include three 50 MP sensors: a main wide camera, an ultra-wide shooter, and a portrait lens. It also features two 32 MP selfie cameras located on the cover screen and inner screen. The Phantom V Fold2 is equipped with a 5,750 mAh battery supporting 70W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.

The Tecno Phantom V Flip2 introduces a larger cover screen with a resolution of 1,056 x 1,056 pixels compared to its predecessor's smaller circular display. This new model sports a 3.64-inch square panel that wraps around the cameras, similar to designs seen in Motorola's Razr and Xiaomi's Mix Flip. The inner screen is a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED with Full HD+ resolution.

Tecno has ensured that the cover screen supports over 2000 apps to simplify user interactions without needing to open the main screen frequently. Users can customise this screen with interactive pets that can play games and music.

The Phantom V Flip2 maintains its weight under 200 grams and measures about 7.6 mm thin when unfolded and 16 mm when folded. It features dual rear camera setup with two 50MP sensors; a main and an ultra-wide with a 150-degree field of view. A single selfie camera with a 32MP sensor is placed on the inner screen.

The Tecno Phantom V Flip2 uses the MediTek Dimensity 8020 SoC paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Moreover, the Phantom V Flip2 houses a 4,720 mAh battery with similar fast-charging capabilities as the V Fold2.

The Tecno Phantom V Fold2 is priced at $1,099 and will be available in Africa starting September 23rd before launching in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America later in September and October. The Tecno Phantom V Flip2 will retail for $699 with availability following the same regional rollout schedule.
