Tecno Unveils Phantom Ultimate 2 with 10-Inch Tri-Fold Display and Dual-Hinge Design
Tecno has taken the wraps off its latest concept phone, the Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2. This innovative device boasts a tri-folding display, marking a significant departure from the now-familiar dual-folding format.
Folding Tech on the Rise
This reveal comes hot on the heels of Tecno's rollable phone concept, the Tecno Phantom Ultimate, showcased earlier this year. The Phantom Ultimate 2 takes things a step further, showcasing a folding mechanism that allows the display to fold into three sections.

When folded shut, the phone resembles a traditional candy bar phone, offering a compact and pocketable form factor. Unfold it, however, and a large 10-inch display unfolds, blurring the lines between smartphone and tablet.
Tech Specs Under the Hood
While a release date and price tag remain elusive, Tecno has shed some light on the Phantom Ultimate 2's technical specifications. The phone features a dual-display setup: a 6.48-inch cover display for everyday use and a massive 10-inch LTPO OLED inner display with a sharp 1620 x 2880 pixel resolution and a productivity-friendly 4:3 aspect ratio.
Tecno claims the Phantom Ultimate 2 is the first foldable phone to boast upgraded Touch and Display Driver Integration (TDDI) technology. This essentially means the phone's chip integrates both the display driver and touch sensor, potentially leading to a thinner and more responsive display.
Durability and Design
Despite its complex folding mechanism, the Phantom Ultimate 2 maintains a sleek profile. At 11mm thick when folded, it's slightly thicker than the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold but remains comparable to other book-style foldable phones. Tecno claims the dual-hinge mechanism has undergone rigorous testing, withstanding up to 300,000 folds and unfolds. Additionally, the phone incorporates an incredibly thin 0.25mm battery, hinting at Tecno's advancements in battery technology.
Concepting the Future
As with most concept phones, the Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2 serves as a showcase for the company's technological prowess and future aspirations. It's not yet confirmed if or when the phone will enter mass production. However, the concept does hint at the exciting possibilities of tri-fold displays and Tecno's commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone design.
Competition Heats Up
The tri-fold phone market appears to be on the cusp of a boom. While Tecno has unveiled its concept, another Chinese tech giant, Huawei, is rumored to be releasing its own tri-fold phone as early as October 2024. It remains to be seen who will be the first to bring this innovative design to market, but one thing's for sure: the future of smartphones is looking more versatile than ever.
