This new Cat S61 smartphone comes upgraded thermal camera and more

The smartphone market is flooded with handsets, from budget category to premium category the market has something to offer for every type of consumer. However when it comes to rugged handsets which are both durable and water resistant at the same time is quite a hard combination to find. We had earlier done the review of one such smartphone which can withstand both shock and water, the infamous Caterpillar Cat S60. Now the caterpillar Cat S60 has a successor line up in the market which boasts some additional features to the smartphone and is named Cat S61.

 
Cat S61 gets upgraded thermal camera

Cat S61 has all got all new upgraded thermal camera setup which can now read the temperatures up to 400-degree Celsius. Further camera setup also includes laser-assisted measurement along with an indoor air quality sensor, which would be interesting to use.
The Cat S61 is expected to be available for sale in select markets and is priced at approximately Rs 65,000. The smartphone will first showcase at MWC 2018 upcoming next week.

 

Cat S61 specs and features

In terms of hardware, The Cat S61 is not featuring any premium hardware specifications like the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google models. The handset, ships with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and is upgradeable to Android P in future using OTA update. The Cat S61 has a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display along which uses Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It features Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC, which is clocked at 2.2GHz, coupled with 4GB of RAM.

On the imaging front, Cat S61 uses a 16-megapixel rear camera sensor with PDAF and an 8-megapixel front camera sensor.
The Cat S61 has 64GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD card.

The connectivity in Cat S61 includes, has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, FM radio, and Micro-USB. Sensors on board include the FLIR thermal camera and indoor air quality as well as accelerometer, barometer, compass, gyro, and proximity. Besides, the smartphone packs a 4500mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support and measures at 150x76x13mm.

Cat S61also features an air quality sensor which automatically samples the air every 30 seconds and also notifies the users of high levels of indoor air pollutants. It can also detect various volatile organic compounds, including paint, solvent, and furniture among others using an inbuilt sensor. These features are not available even for the premium quality smartphones including Apple and Google products.
