Update Your Samsung Galaxy Smartphone To Android Pie Or Say GoodBye To Bixby
Samsung introduced its Bixby voice assistant with the launch of its Galaxy S8 back in 2017. Since the launch, the company has expanded the voice assistant to numerous devices. Now, it has been reported that the company is planning to end the support for all the devices which are running on Android version older than Pie. According to SamMobile, the new changes will be implemented from January 1, 2020. Here are the details:

The report suggests that the voice assistant will simply stop working if the smartphones were not running on at least Android Pie. This will mostly affect the following Samsung models:
- Samsung Galaxy S9
- Samsung Galaxy S9+
- Samsung Galaxy S8
- Samsung Galaxy S8+
- Samsung Galaxy S8 Active
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8
- Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018)

These smartphones are somehow still running on Android version 7.0 Nougat and Android 8.0 Oreo. However, do note that this change will not affect the Galaxy Note 9 users which are yet to update their smartphone from Android 8.1 Oreo.
The report suggests that the company is taking this step for seeking the attention of the users towards its Bixby 2.0 which the company has upgraded last year with the launch of the Galaxy Note 9. Samsung made plenty of changes with the features of its voice assistant. The company has revamped the entire user-interface and also improved the processing.

The Bixby 2.0 was introduced with quick response time and better conversational capabilities. The company also made the Bixby open for all the third-party developers. Samsung also launched a dedicated Bixby marketplace app which allows Galaxy users to download Bixby Capsules. This adds new functionality to the voice assistant.
However, there is no need to worry because it doesn't mean that the aforementioned device users will lose access to the voice assistant. All you need to do is to update your smartphone to Android 9.0 Pie because all the devices are eligible for the Pie update.
