Vivo Reigns Supreme! Surpasses Xiaomi, Samsung, Apple to Become India’s Largest Smartphone Manufacturer

In the third quarter of this year, Vivo emerged as the leader in India's smartphone market. The company shipped 9.1 million units between July and September, a significant increase from 7.2 million units during the same period last year. This growth has boosted Vivo's market share to 19%, up from 17% a year ago.

Xiaomi follows closely behind, having shipped 7.8 million smartphones, securing a 17% market share. Although its shipments increased by 200,000 units compared to last year, Xiaomi's market share decreased by 1%. Samsung holds the third position with a 16% share, shipping 7.5 million units, which is a decline from last year's figures of 18% and 7.9 million units.

Market Dynamics and Growth

Oppo and Realme complete the top five smartphone brands in India. Oppo shipped 6.3 million units, capturing a 13% market share. Realme managed to ship 5.3 million devices, accounting for an 11% share of the market. Notably, Oppo experienced the most substantial growth among these brands, with a remarkable increase of 43% compared to last year.

Conversely, Realme saw an 8% decline in its shipments over the same period. Despite these fluctuations among individual brands, the overall smartphone shipments in India grew by 9%, reaching a total of 47.1 million units shipped during this quarter.

Future Projections and Market Trends

Looking ahead, Canalys anticipates modest single-digit growth in India's smartphone market by 2025. A key factor driving this growth is expected to be the ultra-low-end segment of the market for 5G devices.
