Vivo X Fold 4 Launch Timeline and Key Specifications Tipped: Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 6,000mAh Battery, and More
While the foldable phone space continues to evolve slowly but steadily, Vivo seems to be taking a patient approach with its next book-style device. The Vivo X Fold 4, a follow-up to last year’s X Fold 3 series, is now rumored to debut later in 2025, and early leaks suggest a noticeable focus on weight reduction, improved battery life, and upgraded internals.

Launch Timeline: Later Than Usual
According to a post on Weibo by tipster Experience More, Vivo is targeting a third-quarter launch window for the X Fold 4. That places its potential release somewhere between July and September—much later than the X Fold 3, which launched in March 2024 alongside a Pro variant.
This extended timeline suggests Vivo may be taking extra time to refine the design and perhaps align its launch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered flagship cycle.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and a Lighter Frame
On the hardware front, Digital Chat Station, another well-known Chinese tipster, claims that the X Fold 4 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. This would be a step up from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 used in the standard X Fold 3, though the X Fold 3 Pro already shipped with Gen 3 last year.
One of the more interesting takeaways is the physical design. The X Fold 4 is said to be “ultra-light” and thinner than its predecessor. For context, the X Fold 3 measured 4.65mm when unfolded and weighed 219 grams, already on the lighter side for foldables.
If Vivo can trim that further without compromising build quality, it could appeal to users still hesitant about the bulk of foldable phones.
50MP Periscope, Bigger Battery, Wireless Charging
Camera and battery upgrades are also reportedly in the pipeline. The X Fold 4 may feature a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, which could add some range and versatility for mobile photography—especially useful given the phone’s likely premium price point.
The device is expected to pack a battery close to 6,000mAh, a jump from the 5,500mAh battery in the X Fold 3 and even the 5,700mAh unit in the X Fold 3 Pro. Support for wireless charging is also rumored, which would align with the features found in Vivo’s higher-end models.
A few more details: the X Fold 4 might have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor instead of an in-display one, and an IPX8 water resistance rating—an improvement over the IPX4 protection on the X Fold 3.
No Word on a Pro Variant—Yet
So far, there haven’t been any solid leaks about a Vivo X Fold 4 Pro, which is a little surprising given last year’s dual-launch strategy. In 2024, the X Fold 3 Pro shipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a slightly larger battery, and faster charging—100W wired and 50W wireless. It was priced at CNY 9,999 (~Rs. 1,16,000) for the top-end configuration. The base X Fold 3, by contrast, started at CNY 6,999 (~Rs. 80,000).
This time, Vivo might be streamlining its portfolio—or simply delaying the Pro version until after the standard model has rolled out.
