Vivo X20 Plus UD with in-display fingerprint sensor officially announced
Vivo had showcased a smartphone with in-display fingerprint sensor at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018
Vivo has now officially unveiled the world's first commercial smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor. While reports suggested a later launch the Chinese company seems to have gone ahead of schedule and announced the device just moments ago. As such, Vivo has launched the latest smartphone in China but as of now, there is no word on the pricing and availability.
If we recall, Vivo had showcased a smartphone with in-display fingerprint sensor at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 and while speculations suggested that the device will be called Vivo X20 Plus UD now, the company has officially confirmed it.
It is worth mentioning that the new smartphone features similar design language and specifications as the Vivo X20 Plus. The only difference though is the under display scanner. Talking about the new technology, Vivo X20 Plus UD will use the in-display fingerprint scanner, called 'Clear ID' from Synaptics. According to the company behind the tech, the scanner sends beams of light through the OLED panel, and then accurately reads the fingerprint to verify the user. The sensor is placed between the OLED display and the mainboard.
Meanwhile, Synaptics has already claimed that Clear ID is faster than alternative biometrics such as 3D facial, highly-secure with SentryPoint technology, and very convenient with one-touch/one-step biometric authentication directly in the touchscreen display area of smartphones.
Moreover, the new Synaptics Clear ID optical fingerprint sensor is said to deliver one-touch high-resolution scanning through the full cover glass and enable sleek, button-free, bezel-free infinity displays making the smartphones look more appealing. "Synaptics' high-performance Clear ID FS9500 optical solution excels with wet, dry and cold fingers, and since it's protected by glass, is durable, scratchproof and waterproof," the company had announced.
