Vivo X300 Ultra Leak Hints at Sony-Style Continuous Optical Zoom and Triple 200MP Sensors

Vivo's next-generation flagship smartphone may be stepping deeper into Sony's territory. According to a fresh round of leaks from reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming Vivo X300 Ultra could feature some serious camera upgrades-including a periscope lens with continuous optical zoom, a feature until now exclusive to Sony's high-end Xperia series.

While these claims remain unofficial, they offer an early glimpse into what Vivo could be planning for its next photography-centric smartphone. If true, this could reshape the mobile camera race in 2025.

Vivo X300 Ultra Leak Teases Sony-Style Zoom and Triple 200MP Cameras

Three 200MP Sensors and a Sony-Grade Zoom System?

In a recent Weibo post, Digital Chat Station revealed that the Vivo X300 Ultra might sport three large 200MP sensors, including one with a continuous zoom lens. This type of telephoto system, previously seen on the Sony Xperia 1 VII, allows for seamless zooming across a focal length range (such as 85mm to 170mm), instead of the fixed or dual-stage optical zooms seen in most smartphones.

That would mean the telephoto lens physically shifts inside the camera module to maintain clarity across multiple focal lengths-a design that's far more complex than digital or hybrid zoom. If Vivo does pull this off, it could be the first non-Sony phone to offer this tech, signaling a new direction for high-end smartphone photography.

Is Sony Supplying a Custom Sensor?

Adding weight to the rumor is the suggestion that Sony may be supplying a custom camera sensor for the Vivo X300 Ultra, likely one optimized for continuous optical zoom. Sony has typically kept its most experimental sensors exclusive to its own Xperia line, so a shift in strategy-possibly driven by Vivo's Zeiss partnership and growing camera credentials-would be notable.

Though no sensor model was named, the implication is clear: Vivo may be getting access to one of Sony's most advanced imaging solutions, potentially elevating it above its Android rivals when it comes to long-range photography.

Early Days, But a Familiar Source

It's important to remember that this leak, like most early-stage smartphone news, is not confirmed. Vivo's current photography flagship, the X200 Ultra, launched recently and is still limited to the Chinese market.

The X300 Ultra isn't expected to launch for another year, and many of these specs may change during development.
