Vivo may not be a popular name in the smartphone industry in India but the company is making a number of good phones with unique design. The company is based in China but also operates beyond the shores of Asia in Latin America and Europe.

On the other hand Micromax is now a household name in the country. There was a time when people used to demarcate their devices and garbage and preferred Samsung and Nokia devices over those. But now times have changed and even the company's mentality. After a decent stint with value for money device the company is now aiming to woo the crowd who aims to buy a slim and trendy device. So here comes the Micromax Canvas Silver! But can this match up with the Vivo X5 Pro, which is a device from a company that has produced a number of slim and ‘sexy' devices in the past.

Build & Design:

Both the devices are quite a looker but there's a difference in the dimension though. The Canvas Sliver 5 is markedly slimmer at 5.1 mm on contrary to the X5 Pro which measure at 6.44 mm. The device get a Gorilla Glass covered back though much like the one seen in the popular Xperia devices. There's a metal frame on the side in both the device.

Look wise if you ask me, I would vouch for the Micromax any day! Plus the Micromax tips the weighing scales at just 97grams (average weight of 4.8 inch devices are 130grams)!

Display:

If you are looking for a phablet then the Vivo will be the obvious choice for you as it features a 5.2 inch Full HD (1920x1080) AMOLED displays. So colour will be punchy and vivid - provided you are a fan of saturated images. The Micromax on the other hand is aimed for those users who are looking for a compact device. Display wise it's now slouch either as it also features a 4.8 inch AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The resolution though is lower at HD (1280x720).

The Vivo though features a 2.5D curved display which improves on the viewing angles. The same technology as found in the much hyped Xolo Black.

Under the hood:

There's a totally different scenario on the inside. Micromax has gone for a low power 1.2GHz Quadcore Snapdragon 410 SoC instead of a midrange one as they could let the slim device heat up like hell. The Vivo on the other hand features a much debated octacore Snapdragon 615 1st gen from the Qualcomm. Same as the chip used in the YU Yureka and the Yureka Plus. We are happy though that they didn't go for the 2nd gen SD615 which is pretty popular for severe heating issues.

So if you are on the lookout for a more powerful smartphone then Vivo is for you. Do remember though that both the devices use a 2GB of RAM to handle all your multitasking needs.

Camera:

The Vivo X5 Pro has a 13MP camera with f2.0 aperture on the back. It also comes with a Phase Detection Autofocus Sensor (PDAF) sensor which results in a super-fast focusing time. Vivo has previously done wonders with their Vivo X-Shot so we have quite high hopes from the camera on this unit. There is an 8MP snapper on the front for all those selfie addicted users!

The Micromax Canvas on the other hand doesn't carry any hifi sensors in an attempt to keep the profile of the device slim. It features 8MP IMX219 sensor with a 5MP front camera. The back camera is capable of shooting Full HD (1080p) videos at 30fps much like the X5Pro.

Networking:

While the Vivo gets dual SIM support, the Canvas Sliver gets only a single SIM slot (4G LTE). The X5Pro accepts nano SIMs only but both are 4G LTE compatible.

OS:

Both devices run on Android Lollipop with their own custom UI's running one top. The X5Pro runs on Vivo's own Fun Touch 3.0 which is something I am personally not quite fond of. The near vanilla interface of the Canvas Sliver 5 suits my taste.

Battery:

Despite packing a powerful SoC inside which is popular for hogging the battery life, Vivo has gone with a small 2470mah unit. On the contrary the Canvas Sliver has 2000 mah unit. But we fill it would suffice for its low power SD410 SoC.

Verdict:

It now down to personal taste. If you are on the lookout for slim device which can turn a few heads then Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 at Rs 17,999 should be your go to device. But if you are a power user then Vivo will be your obvious choice. For that you would be required to shell a premium price though i.e. Rs 27,990. Pre booking for the device their official website has started already and the company would start rolling it out post 15th of August.
