Vivo Y78m 5G Launched: 12GB RAM, Dimensity 7020 SoC, And More In A Budget Midrange Android Smartphone

Vivo has introduced a new Android smartphone in the Y78 series, which already includes the Vivo Y78 and Y78+. The Y78m is a 5G-enabled mobile phone which appears to be positioned below its siblings.

The Vivo Y78m 5G features an FHD+ screen, a MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset, 12GB RAM, 256GB internal storage, and more. Let's look at all the specifications, features, price, and availability of the just-launched midrange Android smartphone from Vivo.

Vivo Y78m Specifications, Features

The Vivo Y78 series is positioned in the budget midrange category. Hence, the Y78m 5G misses out on the AMOLED screen. Instead, the Vivo Y78m 5G features a 6.64-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD screen with a 1080 x 2388 pixels resolution.

The 1080p screen on the Y78m has a 120Hz refresh rate, a 19.9:9 aspect ratio, a 1500:1 contrast ratio, and a DCI-P3 color gamut. Vivo claims the Y78m has a screen-to-body ratio of 91.06 percent.

Vivo has embedded the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 SoC inside the Y78m 5G. Some reports suggest this chipset is essentially a rebranded version of the MediaTek Dimensity 930, which is a decent midrange SoC.

The Vivo Y78m 5G packs 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Simply put, there's only a single variant of the smartphone.

For imaging, the Vivo Y78m 5G has a dual rear camera setup, comprising a 50MP main camera and a 2MP portrait lens. There's a humble 8MP front-facing camera for selfies, video calls, and face unlock. The Vivo smartphone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Vivo has embedded a 5000mAh battery inside the Y78m 5G, which supports 44W wired fast charging. It runs Android 13-based Funtouch OS 13. Some of the notable connectivity options include 5G, dual SIM, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, USB-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Vivo has merely launched the Y78m 5G. It is not currently available for purchase. Moreover, Vivo has restricted the launch of the smartphone to China, for now.

There's no information available about the color options for the Y78m 5G. Additionally, the smartphone does not seem to have a textured or leather-like back panel.
Vivo has, however, confirmed the pricing of the Y78M 5G. The sole 12GB + 256GB edition of the Vivo Y78 5G will sell for Yuan 1,999 (approx. $275 / ₹22,600).
