Vivo’s Upcoming S50 Series Could Bring Flagship-Level Zoom to Midrange Phones
The Vivo S50 series seems to be right around the corner, and a new leak out of China has given us a closer look at what to expect. The upcoming lineup, likely consisting of the Vivo S50 and S50 Pro Mini, is shaping up to be a meaningful update over the S30 series that launched earlier this year.
And in typical Vivo fashion, the focus appears to be on design, display, and cameras.
Vivo’s Next-Gen Midrange Lineup Arrives in November
According to leaks shared by reliable tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Vivo S50 series is expected to debut in China in November. The company has skipped the “S40” moniker altogether, as the number four is considered unlucky in Chinese culture.
Both models will reportedly feature AMOLED displays with 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rates, promising smooth scrolling and sharp visuals. The standard S50 might come with a 6.59-inch display, a bit smaller than the 6.67-inch screen on the S30. Meanwhile, the S50 Pro Mini is said to include a 6.31-inch panel with similar resolution and specs.
Vivo is also rumored to be adding an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor and a metal frame—small touches that could give the phones a more premium feel.
Periscope Zoom Lens Takes Center Stage
One of the most interesting parts of the leak revolves around the camera setup. The Vivo S50 could sport a periscope telephoto lens backed by what’s described as a “flagship midsole contact image sensor.” While the exact sensor isn’t confirmed, it could be similar to the 50-megapixel periscope camera found on the Vivo S30, complete with optical image stabilization.
The S50 Pro Mini is also said to feature a triple rear camera system that includes a periscope telephoto lens, along with a 50-megapixel selfie shooter up front. If true, that means both models in the series might get zoom capabilities that are typically reserved for higher-end flagships.
Flagship-Level Performance Under the Hood
The chipset inside the Vivo S50 lineup remains a mystery, though Digital Chat Station hinted at a “flagship-level chip” with a performance score above 300W+. Some earlier reports suggest that the Pro Mini variant could be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 processor—the same one found in Vivo’s X200. That would make sense, given how Vivo often borrows high-end silicon from its premium line for upper-midrange models.
While battery capacity and charging details haven’t been leaked yet, Vivo’s S-series has consistently delivered solid endurance and fast-charging capabilities, so similar expectations apply here.
Pricing
It’s still too early to guess the exact pricing, but based on the Vivo S30 lineup, the S50 series could start somewhere around CNY 2,699 (roughly ₹32,000) for the base variant. The Pro Mini might land in the CNY 3,799 (₹45,000) range, depending on configuration and camera upgrades.
