WhatsApp Is Bringing Noise Cancellation to Voice and Video Calls in Android

WhatsApp is quietly working on improving call quality, and the latest Android beta gives a glimpse of what’s coming next. According to a report by WABetaInfo, some users can now try a built-in noise cancellation feature for both voice and video calls.

WhatsApp Is Bringing Noise Cancellation to Voice and Video Calls

This isn’t widely available yet. The feature is rolling out to a limited group of beta testers and will expand gradually over the next few weeks.

A Small Change That Targets a Common Problem

If you’ve ever taken a call from a busy street or a crowded café, you already know the issue. Background noise can make even a simple conversation frustrating.

WhatsApp’s new feature is meant to address exactly that. It filters out surrounding sounds in real time, so your voice stays clear while distractions fade into the background.

The idea isn’t to change how calls work, but to make them easier to follow without extra effort.

Available in the Latest Android Beta

The feature has been spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.14.1, as noted in the WABetaInfo report. It builds on earlier work around noise handling, but this is the first time it’s being tested as a user-facing option.

For now, only some beta users can see it, even if they’re on the latest version.

How It Shows Up During Calls

For those who have access, the option appears within the calling interface. It’s designed to be simple to manage, with the ability to turn it on or off as needed.

In many cases, it’s already enabled by default. That means users don’t have to dig through settings or manually activate it every time a call starts.

Still, if someone prefers the original audio, the feature can be disabled at any point.

What Actually Improves — And What Doesn’t

One detail that’s easy to miss is how the feature works between two people on a call.

If you enable noise cancellation, it mainly improves how clearly the other person hears you. It doesn’t automatically clean up the audio coming from their side unless they have the feature enabled.

So the overall call quality still depends on both participants.

Rolling Out Slowly

As with most beta features, this one is being introduced in stages. Even if you’re using the latest beta version, there’s a chance you won’t see it yet.

WhatsApp appears to be testing it with a smaller group first before making it more widely available.
