Xiaomi is one of the best brands in the smartphone market and is giving a tough competition to the veterans in the industry such as Huawei and Samsung in just a few years of its operations. In the Indian market, the Xiaomi became the leading brand surpassing Samsung and some notable Indian brands too. While this was the case in 2017, this year too the company appears to have similar plans.
As per a piece of news by Digitimes, Xiaomi is aiming at 120 million smartphone shipments this year. The Indian market has played a very important role in the company's success and this is not surprising as the budget Redmi smartphones have been bought by millions of users in the country. The report citing a Taiwanese handset supply chain suggests that the estimate is approximately is 10 million handset shipments in a month. The report further notes that Xiaomi is targeting to reach 120 million to 150 million of smartphone shipments in 2018. Notably, on the sidelines of a recent launch event, Xiaomi announced that it managed to sell 90 million smartphones last year.
In addition to this, the report adds that the four dominant Chinese smartphone brands such as Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi have revised their strategy for 2018, will work on expanding into the foreign markets and strengthening their foothold in the home market. They have come up with this strategy in order to get a valuable market share in the global markets.
In November 2017, Xiaomi announced that they have sold 70 million smartphones within the first 10 months of the year. Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun announced that they are targeting a figure of 100 million units of smartphone shipments this year.
To give a tough time to Xiaomi, Huawei announced that they are aiming to reach 200 million units of smartphone shipments this year with their flagship P20 smartphones. Notably, the brand shipped 153 million units in the last year. Oppo and Vivo owned by the same company, BBK are focusing on the emerging markets with their affordable smartphones. And, it is expected that these smartphones will go official in the second quarter of the year.
