Xiaomi 16 Ultra Launch Timeline Tipped — and It Might Bring Two More “Ultra” Flagships
Xiaomi seems to be switching up its usual release cycle. The company’s next premium smartphone, the Xiaomi 16 Ultra, could launch before the end of the year, rather than after the Spring Festival as many expected. This comes from a fresh tip shared by the well-known Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station, just days after Xiaomi’s President Lu Weibing teased the phone’s imaging capabilities.
And that’s not all—there are signs that two more Ultra variants could be in the pipeline.

A New Launch Window?
Lu Weibing called the Xiaomi 16 Ultra “a new height of mobile imaging,” which isn’t unusual promo language. But what’s more interesting is what came next. Digital Chat Station hinted that the company might not wait until early 2026 to drop its new flagship. Instead, Xiaomi could reveal it before 2025 wraps up, signaling a more aggressive flagship rollout this time.
If true, that’s a notable change. Xiaomi’s Ultra models have typically launched well after the holiday season. Shifting to an earlier release suggests they’re confident about what they’ve built—especially with their deepening collaboration with Leica.
Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and a Flatter Look
Powering the Xiaomi 16 Ultra will be Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip. No surprises there. It’s the chip of choice for most flagship Android phones in late 2025 and into 2026.
What might raise some eyebrows is the flat display. Xiaomi’s been using curved panels for years, so moving to a flat screen could mean a cleaner, possibly more practical design—especially for creators who shoot or edit content on their phones.
It’s Not Just One Phone
The 16 Ultra won’t be arriving alone. According to the GSMA IMEI database, Xiaomi has two more variants on the way:
- Xiaomi 16S Ultra (Model: 25128PNA1C)
- Xiaomi 16 Ultra Max (Model: 25128PNA1G)
The 16S Ultra is said to include Xiaomi’s own XRING chip, which we still don’t know much about, but it's likely tied to imaging or AI enhancements.
The Ultra Max, on the other hand, could be where Xiaomi pushes the limits of smartphone photography. That’s where the next section gets interesting.
Modular Camera System Might Go Mainstream
Xiaomi’s been showing off a modular camera concept that first appeared on a customized Xiaomi 15 prototype. The setup includes:
- A custom M4/3 sensor
- An aspherical lens group
- A f/1.4 aperture
- And support for lossless RAW, 10Gbps optical transmission, and 16-stop dynamic range
It’s not just about hardware either. Xiaomi’s using an AI platform called AISP (Artificial Intelligence Smart Photography) to manage image processing directly on the device.
If this modular system ends up in the Xiaomi 16 Ultra Max, it would signal a major leap forward for mobile imaging—especially for users who take photography seriously and want more control than typical smartphone setups allow.
