Xiaomi Bets Big On 5G; Will Launch At Least 10 5G Phones in 2020
China, Europe, and the US are some of the early adopters of the 5G network. Though a lot of smartphone manufacturers have already launched a few 5G smartphones these phones are either expensive or exclusive to certain markets. According to the latest comment from Xiaomi's global CEO Lei Jun, the company is planning to launch at least 10 5G devices in 2020.
Though he hasn't confirmed anything inexact, it is likely to launch different 5G phones at different price points in Redmi, Mi, and MIX series. Qualcomm and MediaTek have started work on mid-tier 5G chipsets that will power these devices.
As of now, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G and the Mi 9 Pro 5G are the two flagship smartphones from the company with 5G capability. However, the availability of these devices is limited to a few markets.
If we look at the numbers China has already exceeded 5 million 5G subscribers mark within a year. And this number is expected to grow exponentially in the coming months.
TSMC, a Taiwan based chipset manufacturing company has said that the overall 5G user base in 2020 could surpass the 500 million mark and the market share of 5G phones will rise to 10 percent by 2020.
When Is 5G Coming To India?
This is a question of uncertainty as TRAI hasn't even begun the 5G spectrum allocation process in the country. At this phase, a few telcos might start testing their 5G technology by the second half of 2020.
As per the devices, most of the brands will be ready with their offering by the time the 5G network becomes mainstream in India. The first phase of 5G smartphones are expected to cost more than the 4G counterparts and the prices will reduce as more and more people will adopt the new wireless technology.
