Xiaomi HyperOS will replace MIUI in 2024; Expected to debut on the Xiaomi 14 series first
Xiaomi is gearing up to launch a new operating system in China. Xiaomi aims to gradually replace MIUI with what it calls HyperOS. The new HyperOS operating system will first arrive with the Xiaomi 14 series.
Founder and CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun confirmed the development of HyperOS through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). He noted that the new HyperOS would signify a "historic moment" for the brand and that it will make its debut with the Xiaomi 14 series.

Alvin, Xiaomi's global VP also confirmed that its new HyperOS will start replacing MIUI on supported devices through 2024. To recall, Xiaomi's MIUI Android skin has been around for 13 years now. HyperOS has reportedly been in development since 2017 and will aim to carter to a wide range of products including smartphones, smart home devices, and cars.
In a Weibo post, Lei Jun confirmed that HyperOS is "based on the integration of the deeply evolved Android and the self-developed Vela system, completely rewriting the underlying architecture, and preparing a public base for the Internet of Everything for tens of billions of devices and tens of billions of connections in the future."
Xiaomi 14 Series
Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit will take place between October 24 to October 25, where the chipmaker is expected to unveil the next flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. So the Xiaomi 14 series launch will likely take place shortly after the release of the chip. The Xiaomi 14 series is expected to include the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro.
The Xiaomi 14 series is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The Xiaomi 14 could sport a 6.44-inch C8 OLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel boasts a peak brightness of 2,800 nits as well as HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support.
The Xiaomi 14 Pro, on the other hand, is expected to have a slightly larger 6.6-inch 2K AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. The Xiaomi 14 could pack a 4,600 mAh battery, while the 'Pro' model will use a larger 5,000 mAh battery. The Xiaomi 14 series will feature both wired and wireless fast charging support.
The Xiaomi 14 series will run Android 14 out of the box with HyperOS on top. Both the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro are expected to feature three 50 MP cameras that are fine-tuned in collaboration with Leica. However, there are rumors that the 'Pro' model could feature a fourth rear camera.
