Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi Mix likely to get Android Oreo soon
Xiaomi is testing the Oreo update on 2016 flagships, claims report.
Xiaomi is working on MIUI 10, its next-generation custom ROM but we cannot expect the same to be rolled out soon. We say so as Xiaomi is busy in pushing the Android Oreo update to some of its smartphone models. The Xiaomi Mi A1 that runs Android One received the Oreo update but the update is plagued by bugs and has been halted.
While the company is yet to rollout the Oreo update to the MIUI running smartphones, there are speculations that the devices expect Mi 6 and Mi Mix 2 (the beta programs of Android Oreo are in the works) are all set to get the update soon.
A recent report by XDA Developers leaks a firmware file that shows that Xiaomi is testing Oreo updates for the Mi Mix and Mi 5 smartphones. The information seems to be revealed by the firmware files from @funkyHuawei. The report claims to have obtained exclusive access to these files but lacks pictorial evidence for the same.
For now, there is no clue on which Xiaomi smartphone models would receive the Android Oreo update in the coming weeks or months. We can expect the Mi 7 and Mi Mix 2s likely to debut soon to be the first smartphones from Xiaomi to be announced with Android Oreo out of the box. However, the firmware files those have been revealed show that the company is testing the update for the Mi 5 and Mi Mix. These 2016 flagship smartphones are known by their codenames Gemini and lithium.
Notably, if you are too confident that these updates are to be rolled out soon, then we would like to inform you that the report states that the update might not make its way to these smartphones. Until there is an official confirmation regarding the rollout of the Oreo update to these 2016 Xiaomi flagship phones, we cannot take anything for granted.
