Xiaomi Mi 7 is likely to feature wireless charging support

Xiaomi, the successful Chinese smartphone brand seems to have joined the Wireless Power Consortium, which is a multinational technology consortium known for promoting the adoption of the Qi wireless charging technology.

Though the company hasn't officially announced that it has joined the consortium, it has been spotted on the WPC member list (via GSMArena) on the official WPC website. Apparently, it looks like Xiaomi is in plans to introduce the wireless charging feature in its upcoming devices. Maybe, the upcoming flagship smartphone - the Xiaomi Mi 7 could be the first one to arrive with the wireless charging feature.

From the existing reports, it is speculated that the 2018 Xiaomi flagship - the Mi 7 might feature a 6-inch OLED display that is made by Samsung. The smartphone is believed to run on the unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 6GB/8GB RAM. The Mi 7 is said to feature a ceramic design as seen on the existing flagship model - Mi 6 and arrive with dual rear cameras as well.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and Mi Note 3, the recent high-end models launched by the company do not feature the wireless charging support and this is a feature that the Mi fans are missing till date. Having said that, it is definitely great news for users who have been waiting to see wireless charging in Xiaomi phones.

The consortium became mainstream in 2012 as Nokia and Google launched smartphones supporting the Q1 wireless charging feature. Following the same, this feature became a mandatory feature for the flagships from Samsung and LG.

As the Android biggies started arriving with the wireless charging feature, even Apple adopted to the same. Apple is the recent one that joined the Consortium in February this year. This paved way to rumors and speculations that upcoming iPhones will come with the wireless charging feature. This did materialize earlier this month with the recent iPhone models - iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X those were unveiled. These models have a glass back to enable the wireless charging capability.
