Xiaomi Mi 7 Plus could feature in-screen fingerprint sensor

Xiaomi Mi 7 Plus could be launched with a Snapdragon 845 SoC, an under-display fingerprint sensor and more.

Xiaomi announced the Mi Mix 2S on Tuesday. As this smartphone has been unveiled, the next high-end smartphone to come from Xiaomi's stable is the flagship Mi 7. One of the recent reports suggested that the Mi 7 could arrive with an iPhone X-esque notched display and a regular fingerprint sensor at its rear. Now, we have interesting information about another upcoming smartphone, thanks to the leaked firmware files.

Xiaomi Mi 7 Plus could feature in-screen fingerprint sensor

A Twitter user @FunkyHuawei has come up with significant details of an upcoming Xiaomi smartphone ahead of its launch. The tipster has leaked firmware files to XDA Developers and the major information, which has been discovered through these firmware files is that the Mi 7 Plus could feature an under-display fingerprint sensor.

Those at XDA Developers have researched the firmware files and have discovered a couple of MIUI code bases titled dipper and dipperold. We have already come across a report that dipper could be the codename of the Mi 7. On further research, the dipperold has discovered to feature an in-screen fingerprint sensor from suppliers such as Goodix and Synaptics. Even a mock-up image of an unknown Xiaomi smartphone featuring a notch and an in-screen fingerprint sensor has been revealed online.

There appears to be another smartphone as well with the codename ursa and this one appears to have similar features as the dipper phone. This device is likely to be a flagship device with a notched OLED display, optical zoom, Snapdragon 845 SoC and a 4000mAh battery. The ursa is also expected to feature an in-screen fingerprint sensor from Synaptics and Goodix.

There is a possibility for the alleged Xiaomi ursa to be the codename of the Mi 7 Plus. Eventually, the Mi 7 Plus could arrive with an in-fingerprint sensor and might see the light of the day along with the Mi 7. However, there appears to be no concrete evidence that the ursa could be unveiled as the Mi 7 Plus.

The report further adds that Xiaomi could be having more smartphones in addition to dipper and ursa as the firmware files those have leaked appear to have revealed details pertaining to the same. And, we can expect the details regarding these upcoming Xiaomi smartphones to be revealed at a later time.
