Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S teardown: Here's what's inside the ceramic shell
Here's what's inside the beautiful looking body.
Xiaomi recently unveiled its most ambitious smartphone- the Mi Mix 2S. Unlike many OEMs, the company didn't blatantly copy Apple's notch design seen on the iPhone X. Xiaomi chose to stick the winning formula of the Mi Mix 2, probably because the latest iteration is a version of the previous generation. We might see a new design with the Mi Mix 3. Just days after the unveiling, the first teardown images have made their way across the web, and we finally have an idea of what's inside of this aesthetically pleasing smartphone.
Considering that the device isn't waterproof, the rear panel disassembly is pretty straightforward. The innards are covered with a sealant, so it requires heating in order to pull out the rear panel. While removing the fingerprint sensor needs to be taken care of as it's stuck on the inside of the back panel.
As for the specification, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is sports a 5.99-inch FHD+ display with 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with Adreno 630 GPU.
The smartphone comes equipped with a dual-camera setup at its rear comprising of a 12MP wide-angle lens and another 12MP telephoto lens. The camera app offers features such as Portrait Mode, 4-axis OIS, hardware-level multi-frame noise reduction, optical zoom, dual-pixel autofocus, and AI-based scene detection. For selfies, there is a 5MP selfie camera (at the chin of the device) and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for added security.
Other features include a Face Unlock and Xiaomi's own voice assistant called Xiao. The device runs on Android Oreo-based MIUI 9, and supports Google ARCore, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G, NFC and other common aspects. It is fuelled by a 3400mAh battery powers and also has support for wireless charging alongside USB Type-C port at the bottom.
The base variant comes with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage space and is priced at RMB 3299 (approx. Rs. 34,200). The mid-variant has 6GB RAM and 128GB storage space and carries a price point of RMB 3599 (approx. Rs. 37,300). The high-end variant of Mi Mix 2S comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage and is the most expensive one among the three costing RMB 3999 (approx. Rs. 41,400). Notably, the high-end variant of Mi Mix 2S will be bundled with a free Mi wireless charging priced at RMB 99 (approx. Rs. 1,000).
