The use of the Snapdragon 660 SoC might be a downside as its predecessor - the Mi Note 2 came with the Snapdragon 821 SoC that was used by the flagship phones back then. However, the Snapdragon 660 SoC is no slouch in terms of performance.

Going by the existing rumors and speculations, the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 is believed to run on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The device is believed to get the Android 8.0 Oreo update sometime soon. For now, the company hasn't confirmed its plans regarding the update. The custom ROM called LineageOS 15 will come as a rescue for many users. Notably, the Oreo update is already available for many Xiaomi devices including the Mi Mix, Redmi 3, and more.
