Jokes aside, the Mi4c looks reminiscent to the existing Mi4i and changes are high that you won't be able to distinguish between them if both are placed side by side on the table. The Mi4c coming in a range of what Xiaomi loves calling ‘Bubblegum' colours, just like the existing models. The Xiaomi MI4i sported one of the best LCD display around sourced from JDI/AUO. Further the presence of the company's Sunlight Display technology made reading under outdoor conditions a breeze. However the display had a heavy toll on the batter life and Xiaomi needed to find a fix to the problem.

Here's where the technology of Dynamic Refresh Rate comes in. On using the technology, the display adjust it interval of refresh rate according to the type of display usage. Xiaomi Mi4c now comes with a powerful 1.8GHz hexa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC. This is similar to the one found in the present gen LG flagship, the G4. With numerous complaints regarding the heating and throttling issue of the Mi4i, Xiaomi finally decided to replace the SD615 with the more powerful SoC.

The best part about SD808 is the fact that unlike the SD810 the SoC doesn't suffer from heating issue. The GPU on the inside is a Adreno 418.

Something that many a Mi4i users missed was a 3GB variant of the SD615 powered device. However with the Mi4 around, it wasn't quite a sound proposition for Xiaomi to introduce a 3GB variant. Hence they let it passe.

Now, with the Xiaomi Mi4 decaying to extinction and the Mi5 being round the corner with a 4GB (expected) RAM, the Chinese OEM felt that it was the best time to launch a 3GB variant of the Mi4c. Priced at 1499 Yuan (Rs 14,999 approx.) the 32GB storage/3GB RAM variant cost 200 Yuan higher than the 1299 ( Rs 12,999 approx.) 16GB storage/2GB variant. And going by the addition of an extra 16 gigs of storage and 1gig of RAM, you 100 Yuan (Rs 1,000 approx) won't be badly spent.

This is something that Xiaomi presumably took from the ZTE Nubia Z9 engineers. With its support for the edge touch technology dubbed the FiT (Frame Interactive Technology) ZTE Nubia Z9 was one easy to use 5.5 inch and needless to say that it won many a laurels worldwide. However unlike the Xiaomi Mi4c, the Nubia Z9 costs a bomb.

Xiaomi supposed tried to push in some of the goodness of the Nubia Z9 into its mid-ranger by this Edge Tap Technology. The edge touch will come in handy if you want to operate selected features without actually touching the display. For example you can click a picture on the Camera app by just a single tap at the edge of the screen or go back by a menu by a double tap.

Unlike the Mi4i which touted a micro USB 2.0 port, the Mi4c features the latest and the greatest USB Type C port. With the similar shape both upside down, the USB Type C port is rather hassle free to use, and save your from the ‘Upside Dow Downside Up' dance. Plus its add up the copying speed too.

The major con however with the USB Type C port is that it isn't highly adopted in most smartphones in the market till date. That mandates you to carry the USB Type C cable everywhere you go, along with a micro USB 2.0 port (in case you have to use two phones at a time). However Xiaomi has apparently solved the issue by bundling in an adapter within the box.

This is something that turns things a little shower but not a deal breaker by any means. The Xiaomi Mi4c doesn't come with the company's latest MIUI 7 out of the box! The Xiaomi Mi4c is a great mid-range to own and its apparent that the company has really dished in a lot of effort behind it. However with the Mi4i around at the same price bracket, Xiaomi' intentions regarding the Mi4c are still not clear. Hopefully the company will cut the price of the existing Mi4i very soon. Additionally the Mi4 is also priced similar to the 3GB variant of the device at 1499 Yuan (Rs 14,999). With an improved processor and nifty features, it is definitely a better buy than the Mi4 at this price point. On the other hand though the build of the Xiaomi Mi4 is rather premium thanks to the metal and the glass. Hence it's apparent that Xiaomi is in a kind of fix with their pricing. Expect the company to make a few changes in the pricing of the existing device, if not driving them to extinction before launching the Xiaomi Mi4c in India.
