Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Has Overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC: Is The Same “For Samsung Galaxy S23” Exclusive SoC?

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is expected to launch next week on August 14, 2023. Just before its official launch, the flagship foldable Android smartphone surfaced on Geekbench.

Xiaomi appears to have made a deal with Qualcomm to source a special, overclocked version of the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Let's look at the latest information before the premium smartphone is unveiled in China before Xiaomi launches it in India.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Foldable Smartphone Has Overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

The Xiaomi Mix series has always offered cutting-edge hardware and top-end specifications. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 isn't an exception, as its Geekbench listing has revealed.

A prototype of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 was put through the Geekbench tests. It is not clear if the same was a production-ready model or an experimental one. Regardless, the foldable Android smartphone from Xiaomi managed to score 2,071 points in single-core tests and 5,419 points in multi-core tests.

The chipset powering the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is an octa-core chipset from Qualcomm with its Prime performance core clocked at 3.36 GHz. The other four Performance cores are clocked at 2.80 GHz, and the remaining three Efficiency cores are clocked at 2.02 GHz.

Smartphone enthusiasts will instantly recognize that these chipset specifications are identical to the "Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy". This is strange because the overclocked edition of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC (from 3.2 GHz to 3.36 GHz) was presumed to be exclusively made for the flagship Samsung Galaxy S23 series smartphones.

Incidentally, even the RedMagic 8S Pro has the same chipset. In fact, Qualcomm has officially confirmed that "there are no specification differences between Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy and this new variant of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with 3.36GHz peak CPU speeds."

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Specifications, Features

As the Geekbench listing confirms, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 packs 14.84 GB or 16GB of RAM. It runs Android 13 OS, but Xiaomi should slap its own custom MIUI 15 skin on top. It is possible that Xiaomi will offer the Mix Fold 3 with varying RAM capacity.

Recent leaks have claimed the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 will feature a 6.5-inch Full HD+ AMOLED outer screen also with a 120 Hz refresh rate. When unfolded, the inner display will measure 8.02 inches. It will have a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Some reports claim Xiaomi has embedded an under-display fingerprint scanner in the inner display. However, it is possible that Mix Fold 3 may have another fingerprint scanner under the outer display.

Recently revealed visual details indicate the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 features a quad camera system, with a 50 MP main camera, which is accompanied by a telephoto lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a periscope zoom camera.

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is tipped to be powered by a 4800mAh battery, with support for 67W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. Xiaomi has already started boasting the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 the thinnest horizontal foldable so far.
