Xiaomi Redmi 1S now receiving MIUI 9.2 Global Stable ROM; how to update

Xiaomi Redmi 1S is now reportedly receiving the MIUI 9 update. Launched back in 2014, the it is one of the first Redmi smartphones to arrive in India. Though the smartphone is receiving the latest MIUI version of 9.2.2.0, the operating system is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat and it has the Android security patch for October 2016.

The MIUI 9 Global ROM went official in November last year and most devices from Xiaomi have already started receiving the update. The company, however, started rolling out the MIUI 9.2 update earlier this month. The news of Xiaomi Redmi 1S receiving this latest update comes from a senior member on an MI forum. The update carries the build number MIUI 9.2.2.0. (KHCMIEK) and measures 153MB in size.

 

According to the user, despite receiving the new custom ROM, the Redmi 1S still runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. And as stated earlier, the Android security patch is from October 10, 2016. A separate post by another user on the MI forum contains the changelog that the update brings to the smartphone.

The MIUI 9.2 update brings an interactive and Fresh UI changes with changes in the lockscreen, status bar, and notification bar. Besides this, Xiaomi has also added new optimized themes which include a redesigned home page as well as updated Peach blossom and Asphalt themes. Furthermore, the Mi Mover app can now support data migration restarting.

Significantly, the MIUI 9.2 update adds an improved battery usage feature to the Xiaomi Redmi 1S. This feature automatically turns on the Battery Saver mode when the phone is charging. In addition to all these, the smartphone will also get features like Calendar Cards, Mi Video App, App Vault, Mi Drop, New Gallery App and New Mi Explorer.

If you own a Redmi 1S and want to get this update, you should make sure that your device is running MIUI 8 Stable ROM. Since the update is rolling out via OTA (over the air), you will have to wait for a notification. You can also check for it manually in the Updater app or by going to Settings > About phone > System update.

Alternatively, you can try flashing methods to get the update after Xiaomi makes the recovery ROM or fastboot ROM files available.
