Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus gets Wi-Fi Alliance approval ahead of global launch
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus global launch could be nearing as it has cleared the necessary certifications.
Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones with full-screen design and 18:9 display in December 2017. The company is also expected to bring these smartphones to the global markets later this month. There are contradictory reports regarding the launch date of the global variants of these phones as some believe that the same will happen during the MWC 2018 tech show while the other claim that the same might happen a little earlier.
In the meantime, the Redmi 5 Plus has just received the Wi-Fi Alliance approval tipping that its global launch is around the corner. Similar to the Chinese version, the international variant also appears to run Android 7.1.2 Nougat topped with MIUI 9. There are claims that the device will receive the Android Oreo update sometime soon. Given that the smartphone has cleared the Wi-Fi Alliance certification, we can expect it to be just a week or two away from its global launch.
When it comes to the specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus was unveiled with a 5.99-inch display with a FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. In China, the smartphone makes use of a more powerful Snapdragon 625 SoC teamed up with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage space that can be further expanded using a microSD card.
The imaging aspects of the Redmi 5 Plus includes a 12MP primary camera at its rear with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash and a 5MP selfie camera with LED flash and Beautify 3.0 at the front. In terms of battery life, the Xiaomi smartphone gets the power from a 4000mAh battery (with fast charging support) touted to offer up to 17 days of standby time. On the connectivity front, the device is bundled with 4G Band 40 support, USB OTG, Infrared sensor, and other standard aspects.
In China, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is priced at 999 yuan for the base model with 3GB variant and 1299 yuan for the 4GB variant. We can expect the device to be priced starting from Rs. 9,999 and go up to Rs. 13,000 in India but an official confirmation regarding the device is yet to be out.
