Redmi Turbo 5 Leak Hints at Dimensity 8500 Ultra, Metal Frame; India Launch as POCO X8 Pro Likely in 2026

Xiaomi’s upcoming Redmi Turbo 5 has surfaced in a series of leaks that suggest key hardware upgrades and a potential rebranding strategy for global markets. According to reliable sources, while the Turbo 5 is expected to launch in China, it may be introduced globally as the POCO X8 Pro. The Turbo 5 Pro, on the other hand, could be rebranded as the POCO F8.

The expected timeline for launch points to early 2026, though official confirmation from Xiaomi is still pending.

Redmi Turbo 5 Leak Hints at Dimensity 8500 Ultra, Metal Frame

Dimensity 8500 Ultra May Power the Turbo 5

A recent leak from tipster Yogesh Brar indicates that the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra SoC will power the Redmi Turbo 5. This would be an incremental update over the Dimensity 8400 Ultra used in the Redmi Turbo 4 and POCO X7 Pro.

The newer chipset is likely to offer efficiency improvements and performance gains in line with other mid-range SoCs in its category.

6.6-Inch Display With Metal Frame Expected

Earlier, tipster Digital Chat Station had revealed that the Redmi Turbo 5 will come with a 6.6-inch display with a 1.5K resolution. The display is said to feature “large R-angle” corners—referring to curved screen edges intended for ergonomic handling.

In terms of build, the Turbo 5 is expected to move from a plastic frame to a metal middle frame, marking a shift toward a sturdier design typically seen in higher-end smartphones. These changes could contribute to a more refined in-hand feel without significantly affecting weight or thickness.

Battery Capacity and Charging

Battery specifications have not been fully confirmed, but the Redmi Turbo 5 is expected to continue the large-battery trend set by its predecessor. The Redmi Turbo 4 featured a 6,550mAh battery with 90W fast charging, and the Turbo 5 is likely to retain a similar capacity while aiming for a slimmer profile.

Separately, leaks suggest that the Redmi Turbo 5 Pro may feature a battery exceeding 8,000mAh, though details on charging speed and thermal management are still unavailable.

Possible Shift in Xiaomi's Chip Strategy

Brar’s post also referenced a broader shift in Xiaomi’s processor sourcing strategy, noting that the brand may be reducing reliance on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips in the future.

While no immediate changes are tied to the Turbo 5 series, the move suggests a gradual shift in Xiaomi’s overall chipset alignment across its device portfolio.

Global Availability

Consistent with Xiaomi’s previous product cycles, the Redmi Turbo 5 and 5 Pro are expected to launch first in China, followed by global versions under the POCO brand.

The Turbo 5 could become the POCO X8 Pro, while the 5 Pro may arrive as the POCO F8. No release dates or pricing details have been officially confirmed.
