Nothing Now Lets You 3D Print Your Own CMF Phone 1 Back Cover - Here's Everything You Need to Know
Nothing, the innovative tech company known for bringing many unique design touches and features to its products, has recently introduced its sub-brand's inaugural smartphone, the CMF Phone 1.
This device stands out with its unique features geared towards customization and creative expression, and now the London tech giant is doubling down even more on the customization aspect by allowing its community to 3D print the cases for the CMF Phone 1.

From Social Media Spark to Reality
The origin of the user-designed back covers is quite interesting. It started organically within the tech community, where an X user by the name DerrenGoneDigital proposed an idea on a social media platform: a trading card holder case for the CMF Phone 1.
This idea caught the attention of Nothing's founder and CEO, Carl Pei, who was inspired by the creativity displayed. Demonstrating the company's dedication to user input, Nothing promptly released downloadable files within hours, turning a social media concept into a practical product.
Features and Customization Options
The CMF Phone 1 features replaceable rear cases, which can be easily secured with standard M2 screws. This design allows users to personalize their devices with different back covers and add accessories using an Accessory Point located at the bottom right corner of the phone. The accessories can be attached with the provided Accessory Point Cover or any M2.5 screw.

This opens up a world of customization possibilities, from ergonomic camera grips to specialized lens attachments, fostering a culture of creativity. To support this, Nothing provides .stl files of the basic rear cover, encouraging 3D printing enthusiasts to create their own designs. Early community tests have shown promising results, and optimized files are expected to follow.
For instance, community member Shantanu Goel has already developed a prototype camera grip.
Community Engagement and Collaboration
Nothing has actively invited users worldwide to share their ideas, sketches, renders, and 3D prints. The company emphasizes responsible creation and encourages collaboration among community members, fostering a supportive environment for innovation in accessory design.
However, the company also notes that it is not liable for any compatibility issues or damage resulting from unofficial accessories or modifications.
