2017 was not an eventful year for ZTE as the company had launched only a handful of smartphones. However, the Chinese OEM seems to have some big plans for this year. Last month, ZTE's Chief Executive Officer, Lixin Cheng announced that his company aims to launch smartphones with 5G support by the end of 2018. Leaving that aside, let's find out what the company is planning for the upcoming MWC.
According to a new report by Android Headlines, ZTE will unveil a budget smartphone at MWC 2018 later this month. Dubbed as Blade V9, the handset had appeared on the company's Spanish website in December last year. The smartphone has also been certified by FCC, hinting at an imminent launch. The latest report now confirms that the Blade V9 will be showcased at the world's largest exhibition for the mobile industry.
Let's see what this phone has to offer.
Talking about the design, the Blade V9 will be ZTE's first smartphone to feature a display with the aspect ratio of 18:9. The smartphone appears to sport a double sided glass design. The glass on the rear panel appears to be reflective like HTC's U lineup of smartphones. While the bezels around the display are narrow, the Blade V9 can't be called a bezel-less phone.
Especially, the top and bottom bezels are pretty prominent. The device doesn't feature a physical home button at the front and the fingerprint sensor is located at the back. In any case, the Blade V9 will be quite an improvement over its predecessor Blade V8, in terms of design.
The ZTE Blade V9 is said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor just like the Xiaomi Redmi 5. There will be three memory variants of the smartphone.
The options are 2GB RAM with 16GB internal storage, 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage. The storage space on all the variants can be further expanded via a hybrid dual SIM slot.
The smartphone is likely to pack a 3,200mAh battery.
On the optics front, the ZTE Blade V9 will come equipped with dual rear cameras. The camera setup is comprised of a 16MP autofocus sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 6P lens, and a 5MP fixed focus sensor. The camera module will be placed at the top left corner of the phone's rear panel, accompanied by a dual-tone LED flash.
As for the selfie camera, the smartphone will make use of a 13MP sensor.
Display, software and other details
The Blade V9 is likely to flaunt a 5.7-inch FHD+ In-Cell display with an aspect ratio of 18:9.
On the software front, the smartphone will run on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system right out of the box. Other details include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, a hybrid SIM slot and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
The handset will 151.4×70.6×7.5 mm and it will weigh 140g.
