According to Economic Times, the Chinese OEM is working with India's top telecom companies like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, and Reliance Jio to test the 5G infrastructure. The report further notes that ZTE has further plans to "design and develop future technologies" in India.

Fan Xiaobing, President of global marketing and solutions for ZTE told Economic Times that India provides a great opportunity around 5G technology. In his own words, "India is a very important market for us. Telecom industry is all about scale, and India offers scale. Indian telecom market will grow very fast...We are increasing our investments in India to support growth." He further told ET that "the current data growth driven by 4G LTE networks is significant, and the vendor is tapping the opportunity by working with telcos."

Moreover, Fan is of the view that in India the company's business will grow faster than other global markets. Besides, the company aims to bring telecom services and pieces of equipment "designed and customised for local needs."

In any case, ZTE is already at the forefront of setting up 5G infrastructure with state-run BSNL for network expansion in the north and the eastern parts of India. The company has also signed a deal with BSNL to provide network support and 5G gear for future network needs.

According to Peng Aiguang, Chief Executive Officer, ZTE India, it is the only company that is doing pre-5G trials with Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL and Reliance Jio. Currently, ZTE is in talks with the Indian telecom operators on 5G backhaul to basically develop a strong foundation for future 5G networks in India. "We expect to have new partnerships around 5G backhaul soon in India," Peng told ET.

Meanwhile, the Indian Government has been gearing up to achieve early deployment of 5G in India and be on a par with other countries. The Government has already constituted the high-level 5G committee with a mandate to lay down a roadmap for a rollout of the technology by 2020.

On the other hand, many studies have also come up stating the 5G will be rolled out much sooner than predicted and that many organizations are already willing to pay as well as leverage 5G technology when it arrives.
