Nokia Asha 501 Image Leaks Ahead of Launch: Coming in Six Color Variants

Nokia announced that it will hold an event in New Delhi today and has also teased asking if its fans are "ready to add some color to your week?"

Since the time the company started sending out media invites for the event, the tech media kicked off buzzing about the same. Also, Asha 501 is rumored to come with bright color schemes and a new and redesigned UI.

Well, with only a few hours left for the unveiling of the handset, a report by Nokia Conversations claims that the handset has been leaked showing a tiny colorful design. The leaked image comes from the Twitter user @evleaks and the photo shows a stack of handsets, presumably Asha 501 - the new tiny and budget oriented Nokia handset. From the photo, it is speculated that Asha 501 might come in appeared in an assortment of colors including black, white, green, blue, yellow and red.

Going by earlier rumors, Asha 501 is rumored to house a 3.5 inch multi-touch AMOLED display with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB, 5MP rear camera, VGA front camera for video calling, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and micro USB.

Further, earlier rumors claim that the redesigned and overhauled UI of the upcoming Asha handsets will have new features including,

* Replaceable back covers, with bright colors
* Lumia-like design, with the camera strip on the back being the biggest indicator
* No call answer/end buttons
* Home button that changes function with respect to the screen
* Curved glass, with sleeping screen like functionality for at-a-glance information

Coming to the market conditions, a new Asha handset with interesting features is no surprise as the Asha handsets have surpassed the Windows Phone 8 based Lumia smartphones in terms of sales in 2012.

Nokia has made a concentrated effort to shoot up the share of its budget phone segment lately with handsets like the Asha 205 and Nokia 206. The Lumia line has been getting more affordable as well with devices like the Lumia 520 and others. Moreover, there are speculations that the Lumia smartphones might get more cheaper.
