Nokia To Focus On Budget Phone Segment
Now Nokia, the big time mobile phone makers, seems to have heard of this “affinity” of the people to such handsets because Nokia has made an announcement that they would like to be more competitive in the particular sector of low price mobile handsets with Internet facilities. To know more about this matter, Nokia apparently sponsored a study to check how many people prefer to use internet in such handsets. Of a total of 3000 volunteers using Nokia handsets under a price range of Rs 6000/-, of the study, about 82% of them use their handsets to surf the internet, chat and post emails.
Of the 47 million internet users in India, 11.8 million people make use of Internet through their mobile phones. So supposedly, there is an apparent growth in the demand of using mobile phones for Internet. And Nokia decided to lace up their grip on the Rs 6k mobile handsets in the market. Out of Nokia’s 30 – 40 handset models in the Indian Market, about 10 – 15 models cost less than or approximately Rs 6000/-. Nokia is now devising strategies to increase the rate at which their handsets coming under this category are being sold. They have made it clear that they are going to use the analyses of the study to make new mobile handsets which will increase the people’s demands to buy them thus helping Nokia get an upper hand in the market for such handsets.
Jasmeet Gandhi, Head of Service Marketing, Nokia (India) has already confirmed that Nokia will be bringing out a number of strategies to give them an edge in the sector, this year itself. So, it’s sure that Nokia would come up with cool new handsets which will prove very reliable to the Internet users as it will be priced below Rs 7000/-. Nokia is almost ready to gain a lot of profit by next year but we have to wait to know what’s coming.
