Nokia Lumia 2520 Hands on Review: First look

Nokia Lumia 2520 is positioned in such a way that you won't miss your point & shoot camera. The device is stuffed with a 6.7-megapixel camera powered by Carl Zeiss optics and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. The quality of its rear facing camera is above average, which is good for shooting in indoor as well as outdoors. Nokia could have incorporated an LED Flash as well. The front-facing camera can record videos in HD format. Nokia Camera app comes out of box. Nokia has decided to merge Nokia Pro camera and Nokia Smart Camera, making the imaging experience even more intuitive.

Under the hood, Nokia has used a Qualcomm powered 800 chipset (8974). It's a quad-core type clocking at a speed of 2.2GHz. The RAM stands at 2GB, while the internal memory (32GB) is expandable via a microSD card slot. The Lumia 2520 is world's first Windows RT tablet to support 4G LTE connectivity.

Moreover, the Lumia 2520 houses a monster 8,000mAh non-removable battery. Nokia says the battery will last up to 10 hours on a single charge. The maximum standby time is 25 days. The tablet uses a special charger (properitory) instead of normal micro-USB cable. It is called "fast charging ", which let you charge your tablet at a faster rate compared with commonly available USB-cable.

The Nokia Lumia 2520 is based on Windows RT 8.1 OS. The same operating system is used to power the recently launched Microsoft's Surface RT 2. Nokia says that they have opted for this OS because it saves battery life, and also the tablet's form factor is thinner because of ARM architecture. Since Windows 8.1 RT supports full version of MS Office for free; it is worthy to purchase the Lumia 2520 for educational purpose. Apart from standard Microsoft apps comes pre-installed with every purchase, Nokia is also bundling its own branded apps (HereMaps, OneNote and Nokia Music) to make experience more immersive.

Nokia Video Director is a video-editing app, which let you edit video clips, and later assembled into a full length movie. You can add different types of effects: sound, background music, title screen or edit scenes. This app will be available on Lumia 2520 from day one.

Nokia Story teller app let you combine pictures and videos with HereMaps. Basically, it creates a sort of picture journey. You can even zoom in a selected photo, and see where it was taken. Moreover, the Nokia Story teller app is also capable to pulls in images from your Facebook account.

Nokia is also offering, an optional Keyboard cover at a price point of $150(Rs 9000). The keyboard cover will be able to enhance the battery (Lumia 2520) by 5 hours. Without any doubt, the styling and looks are inspired by Surface range of tablets.

Overall, the Nokia Lumia 2520 feel more special and personal than any other tablet available in the market. The Windows 8.1 RT is not a bizarre decision; rather Nokia's choice should be taken on a serious note. The 10.1-inch display is gorgeous and easily one of the brightest tablets we have seen recently. Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset has made the tablet super fast, and users won't face issues related to performance. The Lumia 2520 is priced at $499(Rs. 29,940) in the US market.
