In the recent wave of smartphone launches, besides Samsung and HTC, Nokia has also managed to gain grandeur in terms of giving a preview of latest smartphones debuts in its Windows Phone integrated Lumia lineup. Nokia Lumia, being the product of both the Finnish handset vendor and Microsoft has been fabricated to score a bigger share of the smartphone market, which is currently dominated by Apple and Google Android.

When it comes to WP8 series Nokia Lumia handsets, there are three Nokia Lumia models out in the market right now including Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 820, Nokia Lumia 620. Besides the same, Nokia Lumia 510 enthrusted with Windows Phone 7.8 also has its own strengths and weaknesses in order to stand side-by-side with other Nokia Lumia model.

Until late 2012, Windows Phone 8 was meant for high-end handsets, while Windows Phone 7.5 Mango was targeted towards low-end and mid-range smartphones. However, with the launch of Lumia 620, which is claimed to be the cheapest Windows Phone 8 based handset - Nokia made it clear that the WP8 platform can be incorporated even in reasonably priced handsets.

While Lumia 510 priced at Rs 9,999, Lumia 620 is still not released in India, however, reportedly the smartphone will hit the shelves sometime in February with an estimated price tag of Rs 16,000 approximately. With two new handsets in the Windows Phone mid range market segment, Nokia fans will find it hard to determine which Lumia model is better. Hence, lets have a look at the features and specifications comparison of both the handsets to find out the same.

Dimensions & Weight: : Lumia 620 boasts a dimension of 115.4 x 61.1 x 11 mm and weighs in at 127 grams and Lumia 510 carries a dimension of 120.7 x 64.9 x 11.5mm and weighs around 129 grams.

Display: In this segment, Lumia 620 packs a 3.8 inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution. On the other hand, Lumia 510 houses a slightly larger 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

Processor: When it comes to processor, Lumia 620 is powered by a 1GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, which is better than the 800MHz single-core processor in Lumia 510.

Operating System: Speaking of OS, Lumia 620 comes with Windows Phone 8 Apollo platform out of the box, whereas, Lumia 510 is based on Windows Phone 7.8 Refresh.

Describing on software features, Windows Phone 7.8 OS will have a new Start screen look and feel, familiar to that in Windows Phone 8, Ringtone maker app to selected markets to create a personal ringtone, Contact share app updated to support sharing over Bluetooth in addition to SMS and email and more.

On the other hand, Windows Phone 8 has improved features like dynamic Live Tile Information, social network integration in the People hub, Skydrive and Office 365 documents synchronization, Facebook-events integrated calendar, visual voicemail, threaded email conversations support and many more.

Camera: In terms of camera optics, both Lumia 620 and Lumia 510 come with a 5MP rear camera. However, Lumia 620 fares well with a 0.3MP front camera for video calling, which is lacking in Lumia 510.

Storage: On the storage front, Lumia 620 has 8GB internal storage and a micro SD card slot for expandable memory support. In comparison, Lumia 510 packs 4GB internal storage and lacks a micro SD card for expandable storage support.

Connectivity: When it comes to data connectivity, both the handsets offer Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and micro USB 2.0 features. Further, Lumia 620 scores more with the presence of NFC connectivity.

Battery: Lumia 620 is loaded with a 1,300 mAh battery of undisclosed backup, whereas, Lumia 510 is loaded with a 1,300 mAh BP-3L battery delivering 6.2 hours talk time and 653 hours standby.

Price: While Lumia 510 is priced at Rs 9,999, Lumia 620 is awaiting its release into the market. However, the Windows Phone 8 handset is estimated to be priced at Rs 16,000.

Verdict

Both the smartphones are based on Windows Phone operating system and hence, they both will offer similar user experience, but with slight differences as they are different versions of the same OS.

However, both Lumia 510 and Lumia 620 will come with 7GB free SkyDrive storage as the other Windows Phone offerings.

If the concern is on a relatively low priced handset and a larger display real estate, Lumia 510 without a front camera could be the right choice.

On the other hand, if the concern is on a better camera performance, front camera for video calling, dual core and faster processor and NFC connectivity, Lumia 620 might be a better option.
