Coming back to the topic, Finnish phone manufacturer Nokia launched the Lumia 800 smartphone powered by Windows platform in 2011 at a price tag of Rs 24,999. On the other hand, in July Samsung launched the Omnia M, a mid-range Windows handset, priced at Rs 16,500.

While combining these surveys and the launch of the Samsung Omnia M, the question is, will the handset be as successful as the Android handsets launched by the South Korean manufacturer? Form Factor

Nokia Lumia 800 measures 116.5 x 61.2 x 12.1 mm and weighs 142 grams whereas Samsung Omnia M measures 121.6 x 64.1 x 10.5 mm and weighs 119 grams. The figures point out that the latter is lightweight and easy to carry, however, it is slightly on the thicker side when compared to the Lumia 800.

Lumia 800 sports a 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with the ClearBlack technology and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The display has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, which is 252 ppi pixel density approximately.

On the other hand, Omnia M sports a 4.0 inch multitouch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, which is 233 ppi pixel density approximately.

Operating System

Both the smartphones run on the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system.

Processor

In this segment, Nokia Lumia 800 proves to be faster device as it is powered by a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor, while the Omnia M is powered by a 1 GHz processor.

Camera

Nokia Lumia 800 boasts an 8 MP camera that can capture images with a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. It can also record 720p videos @30 fps. The camera is equipped with features like Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, dual LED flash and geo-tagging.

Whereas, Omnia M sports a 5 MP camera that can capture images with resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The camera is equipped with geo-tagging feature and image stabilization features. It can record QVGA videos @30fps. Moreover the handset has a VGA front camera for video calling, which is lacking in Lumia 800.

Memory

Nokia Lumia 800 comes with an internal storage of 16 GB and 512 MB RAM while Omnia M has comes with an internal storage of 4GB and 8GB and a 384 MB RAM. However, both the handsets lack a micro SD card slot.

Connectivity

Lumia 800 smartphone is packed with connectivity features like Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, HSDPA 14.4 Mpbs, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps and micro USB 2.0. On the other hand, Omnia M comes with Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, DLNA, HSDPA 7.2 Mpbs, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps and micro USB 2.0.

Battery

Nokia Lumia 800 is powered by a 1450 mAh Li-ion that offers a a talk time of 9.5 hours and a standby time of 335 hours whereas Samsung Onmia M is loaded with a 1500 mAh Li-ion battery that offers a talk time of 7.5 hours and a standby time of 420 hours.

Verdict

Samsung Omnia M is a mid range Windows smartphone with impressive specs, on the other hand, Nokia Lumia 800 is a high priced handset. The Lumia 800 smartphone has an impressive main camera, however, the lack of a front camera is a downside for a smartphone. Moreover, the price of the Omnia M makes it a good option for the budget conscious consumers.
