Nokia had a great time unveiling two new handsets in a span of a week. The Finnish giant unleashed the Asha 501 at recently held event in New Delhi, while the Nokia Lumia 928 was finally revealed for Verizon in the US. With Nokia Asha 510, the tech vendor tries to take on low cost Android powered devices in the emerging markets.
In the US, where the company is still struggling has lot to prove with the Lumia 928, a variant of last year's sleeper hit - Nokia Lumia 920. The handset will go on sale staring May 16. The carries has set the price of handset at par with Samsung Galaxy S4 (Sprint and T-Mobile) on two year contract. At $99.99 (Rs.5,480) , it has a chance to succeed if US biggest network operator - Verizon works better in placing the handset in terms of marketing , and store promotions.
The Nokia Lumia 928 looks a lot familiar to its cousin - Lumia 920. The newly launched device is headed to Verizon CDMA network. The 4G LTE enabled device comes with a 4.5-inch OLED display with resolution of 1,280 x 768 pixels at 334ppi, while the Nokia Lumia 920 has a 4.5-inch IPS display at 332ppi. The Lumia 928 is a bit taller than the Nokia Lumia 920.
In terms of design, the former handset is more polished. Specs wise, it has the same 1.5-GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 2,000mAh battery, and 32GB of internal memory. The device is primarily about its magical camera, and PureView imaging technology.
Well, this is not the speculated Nokia EOS: the one with a 41MP camera sensor. The Lumia 928 houses an 8.7-mega pixel rear facing camera supported by Carl Zeiss lens, and Xenon flash. Nokia says the device camera is so powerful that you can leave your DSLR at home.
As it is powered by PureView imaging technology then naturally the device must be proficient in taking images in low light. The makers also stuffed three right rated microphones so that consumers get distortion free sound. The Lumia 928 comes with wireless charging option too.
The Espoo, Finland based mobile handset manufacturer is set to announce other major announcement on May 14 in London. The event could bring company's first Windows 8 powered tablet, while some reports also say that a brand new handset will be unveiled. The Nokia Lumia 925 (codenamed Catwalk), is slightly moderate version of just announced Nokia Lumia 928 in the US. The upcoming device could flaunt an aluminum crafted body, slimmer design among other features.
Just prior to the event, Vodafone UK confirmed it that they will be attending the major event , and besides they are ready to stock the device too.
"The Vodafone team will be there in attendance, which can only mean one thing. Yep, that's right: we're proud to be able to say that (even though our lips are firmly sealed ahead of the launch) Vodafone UK will be stocking the next chapter in the Lumia story."
