Optimus G2: Will LG Launch the Nexus 5 Variant on May 30?
LG is keeping busy these days and is seeking spotlight for its Optimus series. In a latest development, the South Korean company has sent out 'Save the Date' press invites for a launch event on May 30. Reportedly, tech pundits are assuming that this is the same event where LG Optimus G2 aka Nexus 5 is expected to be unveiled.
The invitation sent by the company shows a thin slim black device out of which a painted butterfly is emerging from the screen. The image accompanied by a tag line which reads "ImaGination begins". The highlighted G probably signifies the fact the the smartphone is the new member of the Optimus G series.
There have been leaks about LG Optimus G2 and one distinguishable feature was the protruding rear camera. The invitation shows a smiler device and hence the device is speculated to be the LG Optimus G2.
There have been quite a few rumors about the LG Optimus G2, including that the device packs enough to go head on against the Galaxy S4. Lately, @evleaks also leaked a picture of the unannounced LG handset which is believed to be LG Optimus G2. In the past a Korea Times report also suggested that Nexus 5 is being made by LG, and it will be based on the Optimus G2.
As for the specs, the device is rumored to feature a 5-inch Full 1080p HD IPS LCD display, an Octa-Core processor, 13MP rear camera, a 3,100mAh battery and might come in 16GB/32GB/64GB/128GB internal storage options. But the biggest rumor was that the device come running on Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
However, there have been reports that the newest iteration of the Android OS wouldn't be available by October 2013, which brings us to the question, is the new LG handset going to come running on the new OS?
There is another twist in the story, as the Head of Mobile Communication for Europe at LG, Won Kim, recently told reporters that the handset will be released in Q3 of 2013. So is the device being launched in the event that is scheduled to happen on May 30, really the LG Optimus G2? Gizbot will keep you posted.
