Panasonic P51 Hands on Review

Processor, OS and Battery

The Panasonic P51 packs a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of ROM (expandable via a microSD card slot). Here Panasonic has opted for MediaTek 6589 chipset, which is not an intelligent move. The performance is no where comparable to Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset.

Also to be noted that this very chipset is commonly used by Indian tech vendors and they are selling handsets at a reasonable price. We were told that the performance of P51 would surprise you. Well, we're satisfied with the performance. From web browsing to running multiple apps, the phone is capable of handling tasks with an ease. If you are into games, better check out any other device. This very device is not apt for playing heavy racing games. Overall, the experience with Panasonic P51 went smooth.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean comes out of the box. Panasonic P51 comes with familiar Android Jelly bean UI. The device supports landscape mode too. Noticeably, Panasonic has done away with traditional styling of icons. Nothing fancy about user interface. With the presence of stylus, it is easy to navigate and scrolling web pages is so simple now.

What we didn't like about Panasonic P51 is that the device comes with a 4GB of internal memory. Out of 4GB of internal memory, users are getting a mere 1.22GB to consume. Panasonic should announce a new variant of P51 with at least 8GB/16GB of ROM as early as possible.

The makers have added a 2,500mAh Li Ion battery. We've no qualms to say that the P51 is one among the top phones with longest battery life. The fitted battery easily lasts close to 22 hours under normal conditions.

Please Note: You must have a look at the actual performance of the device rather than Benchmark results. GizBot tested Panasonic P51 based on certain benchmark results. Have a look!

Camera

We were expecting Panasonic P51 to have stellar camera performance. But unfortunately, our experience with the rear back camera remained lackluster overall. The level of details is not great for the 8MP shooter. Same can be said about close up shots. It's really difficult to get macro shots as per your desire.

We have also found that there is some issue with Auto Focus. Forget about taking pictures in low light. The shots taken from Panasonic P51 clearly show significant graininess - expect a high level of noise. The Camera UI is simple and easy to understand. The front facing 1.3MP is pretty much okay for video chat. LED flash light won't significantly help you out to take better quality images, especially, night shots. The rear facing camera is capable of recording Full HD 1080p videos without any issue.
