Panasonic P51: Quad Core Handset Launched at Rs 26900, Could Face Touch Competition From Lenovo K900
Panasonic, a forgettable name in the handset business, is back with a bang. The Japanese conglomerate known for consumer electronics goods, has announced its first smartphone in India. The much hyped device was touted as the next-big thing in the Indian handset market. The P51, a 5-inch HD smartphone with quad-core CPU built into it costs consumer Rs. 26,900, in the Indian market. The company is aiming for eight per cent market share in the smartphone category. Panasonic has plans to announce eight more smartphones in the coming months along with tablets.
"Panasonic has a great legacy of being the pioneers of innovation in every segment. Continuing our legacy, we are now launching our innovative smartphone which will redefine the Indian smartphone consumer experience," says Daizo Ito, President, Panasonic India.

The Panasonic P51, is a decent handset when comes to its internal specifications. Packing a 5-inch IPS display with resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels , a scratch resistant Asahi Dragontrail glass on the top, 1.2-GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM , 4GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 32GB, Dual SIM, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean , an 8-mega pixel rear facing camera with 1080p Full HD recording, 1.3-mega pixel front facing camera, Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, and a 2,500mAh Li Ion battery fitted inside. This is much about the specifications.
Well, by all means it reminds of a mid-level Android handset. It would be great to see 5-inch Full HD display ducked Panasonic handset under Rs.25, 000 in the coming months. Price wise, the Panasonic P51, packs MediaTek chip which is being used by Indian tech vendors to lower down the cost of handset. Why a premium brand like Panasonic didn't consider Qualcomm Snapdragon Pro processor? Even the handset does have 1GB of RAM; the tech vendor could have used 2GB of RAM. Nonetheless, it's a welcoming move on the part of Panasonic to re-enter Indian market at this point of time.
In the coming weeks, another high profile announced is coming from Chinese major-Lenovo. The much delayed Lenovo K900 is coming to India, at less than Rs.25, 000. The device will have a 5.5-inch 1080p HD display, 2GHz Intel Atom dual core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, a 13-mega pixel rear facing camera powered by Sony's Exmor R CMOS sensor , Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and long battery life.
