Comio P1, S1 and C1 First Impressions: New budget smartphones with a focus on storage, software and
Comio P1, S1 and C1 Android smartphones will sell in the offline market at Rs. 9,999, Rs. 8,999 and Rs. 5,999 respectively
Topwise Communication, a Chinese ODM (Other Device Manufacturer) has forayed in the Indian smartphone market with the launch of affordable Android handsets. Based out of Hong Kong, Topwise will sell its smartphones under Comio brand, which was launched in April 2014 in China. The product line-up includes Comio P1, S1 and C1 priced at Rs. 9,999, Rs. 8,999 and Rs. 5,999 respectively. Comio will sell the Android smartphones in the offline market via company's 10,000 retail partner channels in India.
Topwise is known for manufacturing products for various Chinese and other smartphone brands around the globe and is betting big on these three devices for the Indian market. The sub Rs. 10K handsets from Comio will fight the likes of budget devices from Xiaomi, Honor, Lenovo, Coolpad and handsets from Indian smartphones makers such as Micromax, Intex, Lava, Reliance Jio, etc. Comio handsets focus on in-built storage, security and software experience.
We were present at the launch event of Comio handsets and here's what we have to say about the new smartphones.
Comio P1: Big 5,000 mAh battery unit and Metal unibody design
The top-of-the line Comio P1 focuses on long-lasting battery backup. The smartphone features a 5.5-inch HD IPS display and is powered by a big 5,000 mAh battery unit. The company says that the battery unit will last for two days on a single charge. While the IPS display is bright and vivid, it only offers a 720p resolution.
Comio P1 is backed by a 64-bit quad-core MediaTek processor and has 3GB of RAM to take care of multitasking. The company emphasizes on storage and is offering 32GB in-built storage with all the handsets. The 32GB in-built storage is expandable by upto 256GB via a microSD card.
The metal unibody device looks good and runs Android 7.0 Nougat. The user interface felt pretty smooth and comes pre-loaded with anti-theft and an antivirus to protect the smartphone from malicious attacks. Moreover, the smartphone also comes with an application called ‘Freezer', which restricts the unused apps from running in the background to cut data and memory usage.
You also get a rear mounted fingerprint sensor, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS.
For photography, Comio P1 sports a 13MP rear camera with Autofocus and F2.0 aperture. The front of the handset has an 8MP selfie camera. The rear camera app also allows you to capture bokeh effect backed by software algorithm. The overall camera output seemed good; however we will give our final verdict in our detailed review of the handset. Comio P1 will be available in Grey and Gold colour options.
Comio S1: 8MP Selfie camera with flash and Android 7.0 Nougat
Coming onto Comio S1, the smartphone also offers a metal design, Android 7.0 Nougat, 32GB internal storage and a fingerprint scanner. However the battery unit is only rated at 2,700 mAh and there's no Full HD screen.
The smartphone sports a 5.2-inch 720p display and is also backed by the same 64-bit Quad-core MediaTek processor paired with 2GB RAM. Like Comio P1, S1 also has 32GB internal storage that is expandable by up to 256GB via a microSD card.
Comio S1 features a 13MP rear camera with AutoFocus, f/2.0 aperture, and flash. The front camera is 8MP with f/2.0 aperture and also gets a flashlight.
It is worth mentioning that Comio S1 also comes loaded with anti-theft, antivirus and Freeze application to enhance user experience. And contrary to Comio P1, the S1 sports the fingerprint scanner on front.
The camera output is similar to Comio P1 and this handset feels a bit sleek and compact due to smaller form factor. Besides, the display feels sharper compared to the screen on Comio P1 due to smaller real-estate.
Comio C1: Keeps Audio in focus
While the Comio C1 is the most affordable one in the line-up, it also sports a metal frame and comes loaded with 32GB internal storage and all the above mentioned security features. Comio C1 also emphasizes on audio and comes with Hi-fi stereo speakers. The company claims that the handset offers a multidimensional cinematic listening experience via the stereo speakers and headphones, something we will evaluate while reviewing the handset.
The Comio C1 features a 5-inch HD IPS display and has an 8MP autofocus rear camera with flash light. The smartphone has a 5-megapixel selfie camera. It will be available in Mellow Gold and Space Black colour variants. The storage is expandable by up to 256GB and there is mediocre 2,200 mAh battery unit powering the handset.
Focus on Security
Comio smartphones are able to trigger SIM based alerts which will be shared with the registered mobile number in case of any suspicious activity. Besides, the anti-theft feature also allows the handset to capture the picture of the individual trying to unlock the device without the owner's permission. The device will automatically take the image of the unauthorized person with the help of selfie camera. Other options include the lock and unlock feature, shutdown blocker, data back up, and SIM related functions.
Bundled offers in the package
Comio is offering a number of offers and benefits to lure consumers in the Indian offline market. The Comio upgrade offer will allow users an assured 40% return on their old Comio phones if they are willing to upgrade their existing Comio handset, which should not be more than 12 months old. This offer will be applicable through company's official website only.
Additionally, all three smartphones also come with a free one-time screen replacement warranty within six months of purchase to supplement the one-year + 100 days' extra manufacturer warranty.
The Chinese company is offering 30 days replacement from the date of purchase in case consumer faces any fault with the devices.
Last but not the least; Comio will also have an exclusive data tie-up with Reliance Jio, which will offer packages with additional data benefit. With a recharge of Rs. 309 or above, consumers will get a 5 GB additional data voucher on their handset.
Conclusion
Topwise Communication is entering one of the most competitive smartphone segments in the Indian market. While the company's handsets offer pretty standard specifications, the focus on security, software and storage can work in favor for the new Chinese brand in the Indian offline market.
Moreover, the variety of bundled offers on purchase of Comio handsets and the good distribution channel can also help the company sell a good number of handsets.
We will keep a check on the company's future endeavors and give our final verdict on the performance of Comio smartphones in our comprehensive reviews. Until then, stay tuned on GIZBOT.
