Huawei P9 First Impressions: The Dual Rear Camera is a Stunner

Unlike the LG G5, the Huawei P9's dual camera is manufactured in a way to produce better color reproduction. One camera on the rear comes captures normal images and the other snapper is developed for capturing the 'Monochrome' shots.

The USP of the smartphone is surely the dual camera on the rear for which Huawei partnered with the recognised 'Leica'. Leica is a German Optics company which is widely known for their high-quality and rangefinder cameras and Huawei managed to integrate the Leica camera on the P9 and they are even branding the smartphone with ' reinvent smartphone photography.' slogan.

Huawei P9 First Impressions: The Dual Rear Camera is a Stunner

The talk of the town is the Huawei P9's dual rear camera, however, the smartphone comes with top-end hardware. There is a 5.2-inch FHD display on the front. The smartphone comes with the company's own HiSilocon Kirin 955 chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Priced at Rs. 39,999, the handset is available from today exclusively on Flipkart India.

We got out hands on a Huawei P9 and here're our first impressions on the same. Check the sliders below to know more.

Beautiful and compact in size

As said earlier, the Huawei P9 features a 5.2-inch display which is very much in-line with other flagship smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S7, Sony Xperia X, and LG G5. Having said this, the smartphone feels very premium in hand and very comfortable to use with one-hand.

Crisp and Vibrant Display

The display on the Huawei P9 is FHD which is vibrant and text appeared crisp along with more than fine viewing angles. That being said and done, the Huawei P9's display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 Technology.

All-Metal Body

All-Metal Body

The Huawei P9 comes with an all-metal body with all the ports and buttons placed at perfect places. Starting with the sides, there is a power button with a slightly textured pattern on it along with volume rockers on the right side. It is easy to reach these buttons with its compact size.

Moving to the left side, there is a SIM card tray on top. The 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, and loudspeaker is rested on the bottom of the smartphone. On the back, is the dual rear camera with 'Leica' branding written on the camera module.

The smartphone also comes with a fingerprint sensor on the rear and the antenna bands are also visible which are almost similar to the design of iPhone 6S.

Fingerprint reader is fast and accurate

Huawei embedded one of the fastest fingerprint sensors on the Nexus 6P and the same continues with the P9. The sensor is fast and accurate and unlocks the device in less than a second, which is insanely fast.

Dual Rear Camera is Worth Considering

The USP of the Huawei P9 is the dual rear camera on the back. The camera can capture some decent images along with great depth of field. We will test the camera once after we put the smartphone into the review. As of now, we are impressed with both the daylight photos and low-light photos.

Monochrome Beast

One camera on the Huawei P9 is used to capture only Monochrome shots and we were heavily impressed with the results after capturing the images. Have a look at the image in the slider to get a clear idea.

The Selfie Camera is also decent

Along with the rear camera, the Huawei P9's front facing camera also captures some brilliant shots. The camera also comes with a beautify mode along with some filters seen in the iOS camera application.

EMUI needs some work

Huawei is always criticized for its poor software management on their device, which is a bit of a letdown for the company. The Huawei P9 comes with EMUI 4.1 which runs on top of Android Marshmallow. EMUI is a heavily skinned Android OS with a lot of Huawei's additions to it, however, we faced some issues in the UI like the Settings app is not responsive at times and the Notifications Drawer unable to close notifications, etc.

Decent Performance

As said earlier, the Huawei P9 comes with the company's own chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM. The smartphone's performance is decent enough as we continuously capturing images with it, but it never showed a sign of lag or frame drops, which is an expected thing from a flagship phone.

Final Thoughts

The Huawei P9 has all the features on what a flagship smartphone wants, however, the USP of the smartphone is the dual rear camera, which can capture some really beautiful shots. The smartphone is launching in India today and Huawei earlier said that it will be a Flipkart Exclusive.
