Intex Elyt Dual Review: Strictly for selfie lovers
Intex Elyt Dual is priced at Rs. 6,999 and is aimed at selfie lovers. The smartphone sports an 8MP+2MP dual-lens selfie camera that can create bokeh effect in selfies.
Intex, the well-known Indian smartphone manufacturer started its journey back in 1996 with IT products. The company soon expanded to feature phone segment and also ventured in touch screen devices. It was back in 2012 when the company expanded its portfolio and started making LED TVs and the most loved technology product- smartphones.
- Compact and sturdy design
- Front dual-lens camera creates good bokeh effect
- Easy to use user interface
- Crisp and responsive display
- Sub-par rear camera
- Stutters during gaming and multitasking
- Battery backup could have been better
- Screen is not 18:9 aspect ratio
The mobile division of Intex has successfully delivered some popular handsets in Aqua series for price-conscious Indian consumers. The most recent Android handset from the house of Intex is Elyt Dual. It is the first handset from Intex with a dual-lens camera setup. Surprisingly Intex has offered the two-lens camera setup at front, which clearly suggests that the company is aiming at young smartphone users who love to click selfies.
However, with Chinese companies working really hard to provide flagship features and performance at budget price-point, the Elyt Dual has to face a tough competition in Indian smartphone landscape. Though Elyt Dual has its fair share of competitors including Xiaomi Redmi 4A, Moto C and Noika 2, the smartphone does have some interesting features in its bucket. We used the smartphone for some time and are sharing our experience with the audience.
Front-Facing dual-lens camera output
The major highlight of Intex Elyt Dual is the front dual camera setup which can attract the selfie enthusiasts. The dual front camera includes an 8MP sensor along with 2-MP sensor. Intex Elyt dual also features a front LED to capture images in low light. The on paper specification does sound interesting however when it comes to real-life performance, there's a slight lag or delay while capturing the images.
When it comes to the camera sensors application, the 8MP primary camera is accompanied with a 2MP sensor that sense depth of field information in the images. This allows the camera to create a bokeh effect in the selfies. The bokeh effect can be adjusted while clicking the picture and even after the image is captured.
Display and design: Compact polycarbonate design and a 720p screen
Intex Elyt dual sports a 5 inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 720P x 1280 Pixels which is quite common for most of the budget range smartphones. The screen is protected with 2.5D curved glass, which gives it some level of protection and slightly appealing feel Upon using the Intex Elyt dual, we found that the display does a good job indoors and also in sunlight. The screen also works well in streaming media content as the HD panel offers good contrast ratio and vivid colors. However, the aspect ratio is 16:9, which now seems dated when compared to handsets with taller 18:9 aspect ratio screens. Recently iVoomi has announced iVoomi i1 which is priced at Rs. 5,999 and offers an edge-to-edge screen for comparatively immersive multimedia experience. You must make a not how quickly mobile technology is changing in today's world. Within just two months of the launch of Elyt Dual, Intex has got a tough competition from the Chinese brand.
Coming on to look and feel, Intex Elyt Dual is a well designed neat looking Android device. It is made up of polycarbonate plastic material body which seems quite durable and the smartphone is easy to use with single hand. The back panel of Intex Elyt Dual is removable and the device has matte finish to give it a premium look and feel. Elyt Dual weighs a 149g along with a slim body which allows the device to fit in pockets easily.
The charging port and the headphone jack are placed at the bottom of the smartphone and he volume keys are placed at the right side of the device along with power button.
8MP rear camera is a sub-par performer
Intex Elyt dual has an 8MP rear camera along with a dual led flash that is also an average shooter. The camera performance is not the best out there in this price range and is only good for casual photography.
Hardware and Software
Intex Elyt Dual is powered by a 1.3GHz 32-bit quad core Spreadtrum 9850 chipset. It is coupled with a 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. Luckily the storage is expandable to up to 128GB via microSD card. The smartphone is strictly designed for basic everyday tasks such as calling, web browsing, checking social networking apps, HD video playback, music playback, etc. Don't expect Elyt Dual to run heavy games or photo editing softwares smoothly as the handset is backed by entry-level processor and only has 2GB RAM. The competitors are clearly winning the game when it comes to processing and multitasking performance in budget price-point and Intex has to come up with something better than this configuration.
Intex Elyt dual runs on Android Nougat 7.0 and as said earlier the device handles well with regular internet surfing and playing media files. The UI is smooth and easy to use as there's no unwanted gimmicky additions and its nearly stock Android.
That said let's have a look at what the device offers in terms of battery and connectivity.
Battery and Connectivity
Intex Elyt dual is packed with a 2,400mAH Li-Ion battery unit, which once again is less than what others are offering in budget price-point. However the company officials claim that the device will run one complete day with a single charge and it was partially correct. Though we had to charge the device twice a day while playing nonstop game or watching the heavy resolutions videos on YouTube, the smartphone can survive a day with light to moderate usage. A bigger battery unit would have been much appreciated. In terms of connectivity the smartphone supports Bluetooth, 3G and 4g/LTE, Wi-Fi and GPS
Conclusion
Wrapping it up, we would say that Intex Elyt keeps selfie lovers in focus but fails to impress when it comes to rear camera performance, video playback, computing , multitasking and battery life.
The device is a decent option in the budget range smartphones only if you click selfies day and night.
