Design & Build
Lava's entry-level 5G phone is by no means small, measuring 165 x 76 x 9 mm and weighing 195 grams. It comes in two unique colors - Golden Mist, Midnight Mist. Our Golden Mist unit featured a glossy back panel that was well resistant to fingerprints and smudges. It also has a shimmering pattern that gives it an elegant look.
Despite its large size, the phone is rather comfortable to grip, although one-handed use can get a little tricky for those with smaller hands. The Blaze Dragon 5G also debuts as one of the few phones in the segment to offer glass (Panda Glass) protection on the front and back. Although a plastic frame is standard at this price point, the inclusion of an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance is a welcome bonus.

Unfortunately, the Blaze Dragon does have a dated notch and thick bezels on either side, the latter doesn't come as a surprise considering the phone's price. The phone features a standard side-mounted fingerprint reader that doubles as a power button and a volume rocker on the right. Additionally, there's a USB-C port, audio jack, and speaker grille on the bottom. Lava includes a protective case and charging adapter in the box.
Display
The Blaze Dragon has a tall 6.75-inch HD+ (900 x 1600 pixels) LCD screen with a comfortable 16:9 aspect ratio. The display also boasts a peak brightness of 450 nits and a pixel density of 260 PPI. However, the real star of the show here is the 120Hz display, which ensures smooth navigation and gaming on casual games.
The screen has a solid viewing angles, although colours can look slightly muted. Overall, the display on the Blaze Dragon 5G is ideal for indoor use but do expect some visibility issues in harsh sunlight.
Performance
For performance, Lava has equipped its entry-level 5G phone with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset paired with the Adreno 613 GPU. In India, the handset comes in two configurations: 4GB/128GB and 6GB/128GB. Although it uses faster USF 3.1 storage to improve performance. Additionally, up to 4GB of unused storage can be utilized as virtual RAM for smoother multitasking.

In Geekbench 6, the Blaze Dragon 5G scored 924 points in the single-core test and 1945 points in the multi-core test. Additionally, the phone managed an overall score of 426,134 points, which is only slightly off the 450K+ mark advertised. We also ran BGMI on medium settings without any lag or frame drops. However, we did observe occasional slowdowns during multitasking, an issue that could likely be addressed with a future software update.
Cameras
There's not much to talk about in terms of optics. The Lava Blaze Dragon is equipped with a 50MP AI rear camera and an 8MP selfie camera. The camera system relies heavily on software optimization to improve the quality of photos. The camera app may experience some lag, but the image quality is consistent with expectations for its price range.

In daylight, the camera takes good shots, although colors tend to lack vibrancy. Images do retain a decent bit of detail, but they do lack sharpness. Dynamic range is good, while most results are usable. However, the same cannot be said when the light drops as the Blaze Dragon struggles in low light.
Night mode does help in improving some of those details, although it does take a bit of time without sufficient ambient light. The tale is no different with the 8MP selfie camera, which delivers average results in daylight but struggles indoors and in low light. Surprisingly, the Blaze Dragon's main camera supports 1080p video recording at 60fps, but stability takes a major hit when shooting from a moving vehicle.

Overall, the Blaze Dragon's camera experience is decent and largely what you'd expect at this price point, with the only real drawback being the slightly laggy camera app.
Battery
When it comes to battery life, the Blaze Dragon doesn't disappoint. Packing a 5000mAh battery, it comfortably powers through a full day of regular use without breaking a sweat. The phone supports 18W fast charging via USB Type-C, so you can get back to full power reasonably quickly.

Thanks to the energy-efficient Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, battery drain is kept in check-even during longer sessions. Combined with a clean Android 15 OS, the device manages battery consumption well, holding its own against other phones in this segment.
Software
One of the standout aspects of the Blaze Dragon is its software experience. Lava delivers the device with a clean, stock version of Android 15, free from intrusive ads or unnecessary pre-installed apps. This streamlined approach makes the phone feel responsive and user-friendly, catering well to those who appreciate a straightforward interface.

On top of that, Lava has committed to providing one major Android OS upgrade and two years of security updates, ensuring the device stays up-to-date and secure for longer.
Verdict
The Lava Blaze Dragon 5G stands out in the ultra-affordable segment with its premium glass design, 120Hz display, reliable Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, and clean stock Android 15 software, free from bloatware. It also impresses with solid battery life and extras like IP64 protection, making it one of the most well-rounded entry-level 5G phones. Lava further sweetens the deal with its Free Home Service Warranty, a unique offering in this price range.
However, its cameras deliver only average results, particularly in low light, and the slightly laggy app experience can be frustrating. Moreover, while Lava promises one OS update and two years of security patches, longer-term support would have made it even more compelling. Overall, the Blaze Dragon 5G strikes a great balance of hardware and software but leaves room for improvement in longevity and imaging.
