Meizu MX6 First Impressions: Strikes the Right Chord with Very Few Negatives
With all the glitz and glamor, the renowned tech major in China, Meizu announced the official launch of its latest flagship smartphone Meizu MX6 in Beijing today.
GizBot was present at the event and here're our first impressions on the latest smartphone successor.
- Impressive built
- Upgraded & Clean Flyme OS & UI
- Average camera
Meizu MX6 - Form Factor
Talking about the design language, to some extent, the new MX6 looks like M3 Note with premium all-metal design. This device sports metal body with magnesium alloy frame on the sides.
At the back, it has the antenna bands running along the top and bottom of the device. In terms of button placements, it has the volume rocker and power button on the right while the left has the SIM and micro SD card slot. The bottom is filled with a 3.5 mm audio jack port, speaker grill and USB port.
Overall, the MX6 looks like a solid device and fits well in hand.
Moving on to the display, the MX6 sports a 5.5-inch LCD Sharp TDDI display. The colors are well saturated and viewing angles are excellent. Furthermore, the black levels are good in the Meizu's latest flagship.
On the outdoors, Meizu MX6 is good but not great in terms of sunlight readability. Anyhow, we tested it in a cloudy weather.
We will give in-depth information about the screen in the upcoming review article. Also, the glass on the device is a bit reflective, sometimes you can't see what's going on the screen.
Meizu MX6 - Interface
The Meizu MX6 is shipped with Flyme 5.2.2 snapped on top of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. In terms of UI, this MX6 is pretty neat and simple. The home screen comes with two panels just like the other MIUI phones.
Further, Flyme 5 supports multi-view window feature, which can be used via task switching app. The app that supports multi-view has "Multi" button and the user can activate, just by tapping it. But, not all apps can be multi-viewed.
Moreover, users can also customize the theme of the new MX6 by installing it via theme icon on the home.
The MX6 comes with "smart touch" that offers one-handed operation as well. Users can activate the feature by swiping the notification panel and tapping on the icon. This is a virtual key that can move in four directions and the users can assign the functionality as well.
Meizu's Flyme is always a treat to work on and the MX6 has proved it right once again.
Meizu MX6 - Camera & Battery
Talking about the camera of the new smartphone, the Meizu MX6 sports a 12 MP rear camera with dual tone flash and also employs Sony IMX386 sensor.
The rear camera also comes with the ability to record 4K videos. On the front, it flaunts a 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture for selfies.
The new Meizu MX6 also comes with an auto mode. Further, it has lots of other camera features including beauty, panorama, light field, and GIF.
The camera interface is pretty neat and simple with functionality on the top and shutter button, modes and picture preview on the bottom.
The image from the MX6 has very good details maintaining the saturation and white balance well. But it tends to get noisier during the low light conditions.
Furthermore, the Meizu MX6 is juiced with 3,060 mAh battery with mCharge technology. As per the company claims, it can charge the device up to 25% in 10 minutes and 65% in 30 minutes, which we will test during our full review.
Meizu MX6 - Early Price Verdict
Overall, Meizu MX6 at a price of around Rs 21,000 (in China) can turn out to be a tough competitor against Xiaomi Mi 5 and Oneplus 3.
As per company sources, the phone is expected to hit the shelves in India in this quarter and as per industry experts, it may create market waves only if the price is right.
The right pricing, which is around Rs. 17,000 to Rs. 20,000 can revive the market and turn fortunes for Meizu in India.
