Micromax Canvas Infinity First Impressions: Can it be a game changer?
The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor paired with 3GB RAM and 32 GB of internal storage.
Domestic handset maker Micromax which has recently launched Dual 5 smartphone featuring 13MP+ 13 MP camera, has now announced another smartphone-Canvas Infinity on Tuesday. The smartphone is priced at Rs 9,999 and it is exclusively available on Amazon.in from September 1, 2017.
We were present at the launch event and tested the handset for a brief time to find out what Canvas Infinity has to offer to smartphone enthusiasts. Here's what we think of Micromax's new device.
Canvas Infinity- Design and Display
Despite the fact that the new smartphone comes with 5.7-inch screen, Canvas Infinity is very comfortable to hold. This is because of its light weight body and rounded corners that helps in one-hand operation. The smartphone comes with a metal body and the removable back panel is made out of aluminum.
At the right side of the smartphone, you will find the volume rockers and power button. The micro USB port is positioned at the base and a headphone jack is placed at the top. Two speaker grilles along with the company's logo are placed at the back panel. Micromax Canvas Infinity also supports 4G VoLTE.
You will also find SIM card slot and micro SD card slot under the removable battery. Canvas Infinity has a 13-megapixel rear camera with aperture size f/ 2.0 along with LED flash. The front of the handset has a 16 megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling.
On the display front, the smartphone has a 5.7-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display delivers a resolution of 1440x 720 pixels. Overall, the display is quite responsive and seems decent, however you should know that it is not a full HD screen
As noted, LG Q6 also offers the new 18:9 aspect ration but with full HD resolution at Rs. 15,000.
Processor and RAM: Qualcomm Snapdragon with 3GB RAM
The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor paired with 3GB RAM and 32 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128 GB via Micro SD card slot. The performance of the smartphone was fine during our brief usage.
However, it is too early to comment on the performance of the device and we will give our final verdict after reviewing the handset.
Battery and Software - 2,900 mAh battery and Android 7.1.1 Nougat
The smartphone is backed by a 2,900 mAh battery unit which as per the company gives you standby time of 260 hours, a talk time of 11 hours and music playback of up to 24hours. But somehow we believe that battery is one of the weakest points of Canvas Infinity as the handset's rivals such as Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Infocus Turbo 5 offers much bigger battery units that do a far decent job. We will evaluate such claims while reviewing the handset.
There were no pre-installed apps in the smartphone except the Narendra Modi application.
On the software front, Canvas Infinity runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Interestingly, Nougat allows users to treat SD card memory also as system memory.
In our brief stint with the handset, the Android ran smoothly and we did not face any performance issues..
Camera
The new smartphone has 13-megapixel rear camera along with LED flash light to help you capture images in low-light conditions, while, the front one has a 16-megapixel shooter for selfie lovers.
The camera app also has Time-lapse, video, photo, beauty, panorama, and portrait modes.
We tested both the cameras for a brief period and found that the captured images showed good detailing on the 5.7-inch screen, but still, I wanted you to wait for some time for our full camera review of Canvas Infinity on GIZBOT.
Conclusion
Canvas Infinity seems like a decent budget smartphone with good design. We didn't face any major issues with the smartphone in our brief usage. However, we will stress test the handset to find out its real potential in the coming week
