Besides, HMD Global also announced the launch of Nokia phones shop- an online shop for all Nokia devices and accessories in the country. We were present at the launch event in New Delhi and got a chance to test the handsets for a while. Here's what we have to say about the new Nokia handsets in our first impressions.

Design and Display

Design and Display

Nokia 6 (2018)

The mid-range Nokia 6 is crafted from a solid block of 6000 series aluminium and goes through anodizing and polishing process, which in my opinion has done the trick. The smartphone has a solid feel to it and still feels lightweight to hold. The device has a good screen to body ratio and it felt like it would just do fine for single hand use.

The device features a 5.5 inch full HD IPS laminated display with Corning Gorilla glass on top. The display is 16:9 which in my opinion doesn't live up to the expectations that's because the rival handsets provide latest 18:9 display. However, the display quality is decent and touch response is also good. The brightness levels and contrast seemed good indoors; however, we will test the handset outdoors to find out how the Nokia 6's screen performs in direct sunlight.

Nokia 7Plus

Priced at Rs. 25,999, Nokia 7 plus comes with a ceramic coating that gives the handset a premium feel when held in hands. The smartphone also has a copper lining around the edges and on the rear-mounted camera module that makes the design quite interesting. Nokia has somehow managed to give the 6-inch display a taller aspect ratio, which we and end users will appreciate. The device features an 18:9 aspect ratio Full-HD display, which is bright and the colours also looked vibrant. Nokia 7 will serve well for video playback, gaming and other multimedia tasks.Nokia 8 Sirocco

Among the three, the flagship Nokia 8 Sirocco simply takes the lead in the design department. The company has done a commendable job in crafting this device; however, you have to pay a hefty price for it.

Nokia 8 Sirocco

The device combines a 5.5-inch curved edge-to-edge pOLED 2K display with smaller bezels and moulded body curves to create an ultra-compact profile. Despite a big 18:9 aspect ratio display, the smartphone feels quite compact and is usable with one hand. The phone is lightweight and feels premium to hold, which the price range explains. The smartphone is made from a single piece of stainless steel which the company claims are 2.5 times stronger than the 6000 series aluminium body. Well, the built quality looked and felt very durable. The 18:9 aspect ratio display comes with Full 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for added screen protection.

Camera- Powered by Carl ZEISS

Camera- Powered by Carl ZEISS

Nokia 6 (2018)
On the imaging front, the Nokia 6 features a 16MP rear camera with Carl ZEISS optics and dual-tone flash. There's an 8MP wide-angle front camera for clicking selfies. In the short time, we spent on the phone, it certainly left a good impression. The camera was quick to focus and captured decent images in the low light situation. We will do a detailed review of the device in the coming week to find out how the device performs in various light situations.

Nokia 7 Plus

The Nokia 7 Plus features a dual rear camera setup which includes a 12MP primary camera sensor along with a 13MP secondary camera lens with 2X optical zoom. The camera on Nokia 7 is quite capable and comes with a variety of modes and filters. The demo zone where we got to test the camera had a low light situation; however, it still did a good job. The camera on Nokia 7 Plus also comes equipped with Zeiss optics, which reminds us of the early Nokia phones that supported Carl Zeiss lenses.

The front camera, on the other hand, is a 16MP selfie shooter that is also backed by Zeiss optics.
The cameras come with different shooting modes including Pro Mode, Dual-Sight technology and Nokia's exclusive feature- Bothie mode that allows clicking pictures from the rear and front camera at a time.

Nokia 8 Sirocco

Nokia 8 Sirocco is the device on which the company seems to boast their ingenuity. It is the company's flagship device and has some interesting features in its store for users who have a knack for photography. The device features a dual-camera setup which includes a 12MP and 13 MP camera sensor and has ZEISS optics along with 2X optical zoom. The camera quality is impressive and seemed to perform quite well in the low light situation.

The smartphone comes with wide-angle (84-degree FOV) front-facing camera. The Nokia 8 Sirocco also comes with
Dual-Sight technology that captures both sides of the story, creating #Bothie by combining the images from front and rear cameras. We will give you a detailed review further when we get our hands on the device in the coming week.

HMD has launched the new Nokia phones under Google's Android One Program. The new smartphones also come with support for Project Treble. What this means for end users is that the new Nokia devices are said to receive software updates and security patches faster than non-Android One handsets.

As far as user interface is concerned, the look and feel are stock Android and the new phones run without any lag. We will soon give you a detailed review of software performance of new Nokia handsets.

Nokia 6 (2018)

In the hardware department, the Nokia 6 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 mobile platform. Further, the device comes in two RAM variants, one with 3GB RAM coupled with 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM paired with 64GB internal memory. Both the variants have an additional support for microSD card and the memory can be expanded up to 128GB.

Nokia 7 Plus

The Nokia 7 Plus also ships with Android 8.0 Oreo and like the other 2 variants, this device also gives a pure Android feel. The Nokia 7 Plus is backed by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 mobile platform, which comes along with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The internal memory can be further expanded by up to 256 GB via microSD card. Firing up the preloaded apps was not a fuss and the apps fired up pretty fast.

Nokia 8 Sirocco

On the hardware front, the flagship Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform and the device also ships with Android 8 Oreo. This can be a deal breaker for Nokia as the price-point of Nokia 8 is quite hefty and it still ships with the last year's Snapdragon 835 CPU. The new Snapdragon 845 chipset would have justified the price. Nevertheless, we will find out how the SD835 performs on Nokia 8 Sirocco in our detailed review.

Verdict

Verdict

The new Nokia phones look appealing and cover all the price-points in the Indian market. The choice of CPUs might create some issues but then it's too early to give a final verdict on the new handset's performance. We will stress test them to find out what Nokia has to offer this time. Stay tuned on Gizbot for our comprehensive reviews of new Nokia devices.
