OnePlus 13 Review: Is This Your Next Daily Driver?

The OnePlus 13, latest from the house of OnePlus has finally made its global debut in India. The new flagship from the company looks like a refresh to many old rituals, especially the way the phone looks from the back. With its sleek design, powerful performance, and innovative features, this flagship phone is poised to turn heads. But does it live up to the hype?

From the new microfiber vegan leather to the record-breaking display and Snapdragon 8 Elite performance, the OnePlus 13 seems to have the specs to back that claim. The starting price of the OnePlus 13 is Rs 69,999 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant, it pits it against the likes of Vivo X200, and Oppo Find X8 and iPhone 16 when it comes to Apple. This is a great price point for what it offers, but whether it delivers what it promises, we will find out.

OnePlus 13 Review: Is This Your Next Daily Driver?

In this review, we'll dive deep into everything the OnePlus 13 has to offer. We'll explore its camera capabilities, the much-hyped OxygenOS 15, and the range of accessories designed to enhance your experience.

Design: So fresh, so light

The OnePlus 13 weighs 210g and measures 8.5mm thick. It has 3 distinct colors: Midnight Ocean, a vegan leather; Arctic Dawn, a glass coating, and Black Eclipse, a rosewood grain glass.

I have been using the Midnight Ocean variant that looks unlike any other OnePlus flagship phones we've seen in the past. While the most prominent element on the back is the circular camera module, what I like is the tone of the blue used here with the silver-coloured sides, camera dial, Hasselblad logo, and a thin silver band adding to the contrast.

Apart from the new look on the back, what I liked about the design is the form factor. It now has flat sides, with shaved corners and subtly rounded edges on both front and back. This not only enhances the look but also improves the phone's grip. The OnePlus 13 is really handy to hold despite its large screen size, and the lightweight makes it even better to use for long periods.

Since it's the first time that the OnePlus is using this leather-like material on the back, we'll have to test it for months to see if it's prone to wear and tear. That being said, it feels soft to the touch, isn't slippery, and doesn't catch smudges. Although most of its users will consider slapping a case, these things do matter for someone like me who's always complaining about smudgy and slippery materials on phones. That reminds me, the phone comes with a thin and light plastic case inside the box and it's genuinely good if you want to keep your OnePlus 13 safe, without adding extra bulk to it.

OnePlus has used a Ceramic Guard on the front screen to make it crack and scratch-resistant. It also comes with IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance; this isn't unique or rare to this phone as it's seen on most flagships these days. But it does take away a lot of worry about saving your phone from water and dust. You can refer to the image below to see what exactly it means.

Display: Love it!

The OnePlus 13 boasts the world's first DisplayMate A++ rated display, which is basically a QHD+ (3168x1440) 120Hz ProXDR display. It comes with what OnePlus calls the RadiantView technology - it essentially analyzes the contrast, saturation, and greyscale value of visual content and dynamically boosts the brightness of individual pixels to improve readability in sunlight.

The display also features 2160 Hz PWM dimming, which reduces eye strain in low-light conditions, and is TÜV Rheinland Eye Care 4.0 certified.

Keeping the jargon aside, the display is one of the strongest suits of the phone in my experience. The flat layout with slightly curved edges on all four sides makes it great to look at in all lighting conditions. It is super bright and crisp, thecolours look great and the standard OnePlus quality of touch response remains on the phone. It's among the most responsive Android phones I've used in the recent past.

It's perfect for content consumption, scrolling through social media, or even gaming. If you are upgrading from any Android phone after more than two years, you'll instantly notice the difference in quality.

The display also has an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner for faster unlocking and Glove Mode and Aqua Touch 2.0, which allow for easy use while wearing gloves or with wet hands.

Camera: Close to perfection, still not there

The OnePlus 13 boasts a flagship triple 50MP camera system-

  • Main camera uses a 1/1.4" Sony LYT-808 sensor with OIS, f/1.6 aperture, and 2.24µm pixel size.
  • Ultrawide camera has a 50MP ISOCELL JN5 sensor with 120° FoV and 1/2.75" sensor size.
  • 3X Triprism telephoto camera features a 50MP Sony LYT-600 sensor, 1/1.95" sensor size, 73mm focal length, f/2.6 aperture, OIS, and ALC coating.
  • The front camera uses a 32MP Sony IMX615 sensor with EIS, fixed focus, f/2.45 aperture, and 90° FoV.

The OnePlus 13 has a really impressive camera combination for those who like to play with different lenses and modes. The main camera is great for everyday shots and low-light situations. The ultra-wide camera is perfect for capturing landscapes and group photos. The telephoto camera has a special Triprism lens that lets you zoom in without losing quality, and it's smaller and lighter than other zoom lenses.

The OnePlus 13's camera made a strong impression on me, especially its telephoto capabilities. While the 60x zoom can sometimes result in an over-processed look, it's surprisingly good at capturing text. However, I did notice some interesting quirks. The front camera, for example, seemed to subdue greens in portraits. Night shots, on the other hand, delivered good color reproduction, and the bokeh in telephoto portraits was quite pleasing.

Speaking of portraits, the AI reflection removal was a useful feature in low-light conditions when using the flash. It helped to reduce reflections and produce cleaner images. However, I did observe that edge detection around hair in backlit portraits wasn't always accurate. Despite these minor issues, the telephoto lens is a strong performer, exceeding my iPhone in terms of detail at similar zoom levels.

The OnePlus 13's camera system packs several useful features for different shooting scenarios. Clear Burst and Dual Exposure modes handle fast-moving subjects well, while the Action Mode specifically targets high-speed capture. Portrait Mode offers the expected background blur along with new filters and lighting presets. Video capabilities include 4K recording with Dolby Vision HDR support.

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate Master Mode's manual controls, and Live Photo creates short video clips of moments just before and after pressing the shutter. The phone also includes scene-specific Smart Modes that help optimize settings for challenging environments like concerts and sunsets. These are pretty common on flagship smartphones like Vivo X200 Pro and Oppo Find X8 Pro, which thrive on their camera capabilities like this one.

Overall, the OnePlus 13 camera is packed with advanced features and technologies that make it easy to take professional-looking photos and videos in any situation. But if I have to pick one Android camera phone as my go-to on a trip or just a stroll around for street photography, I'd still pick my Vivo X200 Pro for more than one reason.

Performance: Speedy and smooth

I have been using the 16GB RAM and 512GB variant. After spending over a week with the OnePlus 13, I've had plenty of time to put its new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset through its paces. The performance jump from last year's model is immediately noticeable - apps launch faster, multitasking feels more fluid, and even the most demanding games like COD: Warzone Mobile run without breaking a sweat.

The numbers tell an impressive story: Qualcomm's new Oryon CPU delivers about 45% better performance while using significantly less power than before. In real-world testing, this translated to consistently smooth performance even when pushing the phone hard with multiple apps and games running simultaneously. Graphics-intensive titles like Genshin Impact maintained steady frame rates at high settings.

What particularly stood out during my testing was how well the phone managed heat under load. OnePlus's new Dual Cryo-velocity VC cooling system, featuring a massive vapor chamber that spans nearly the entire phone, does an excellent job at heat dissipation. Even after extended gaming sessions, the phone remained comfortably cool - a noticeable improvement over its predecessor.

The improved AI capabilities are subtle but meaningful in daily use. Everything from keyboard predictions to camera processing feels more responsive, which makes sense given the claimed 45% boost in AI performance. OnePlus has clearly put its experience in performance optimization to good work - the 120fps frame interpolation makes animations buttery smooth without any noticeable lag or stuttering.

Naturally, we'll need more time to assess long-term performance, but these initial results are promising. The OnePlus 13 seems to have struck an impressive balance between raw power and efficiency.

Operating System: Headed to the right direction

After over a week with OxygenOS 15 on the OnePlus 13, it's clear that OnePlus is pushing beyond its "Fast & Smooth" roots into AI territory. The new features are mostly well-implemented - AI Detail Boost does impressive work with cropped photos, though it sometimes struggles with very low-res images. The natural language search has become surprisingly useful in my daily use, while Circle to Search feels intuitive but familiar to anyone coming from Samsung.

Performance-wise, the new parallel processing system makes a real difference. I've noticed consistently smooth animations and virtually no stutters, even during heavy multitasking. The interface maintains OnePlus's clean aesthetic while adding modern touches, though I rarely find myself using the redesigned Shelf feature.

What's most impressive is OnePlus's commitment to long-term support - four years of OS updates and six years of security patches puts them in the big leagues with Samsung and Google. While not every AI feature hits the mark perfectly, OxygenOS 15 feels like a thoughtful evolution rather than a gimmicky overhaul.

The solid performance and extended support timeline make the OnePlus 13 a more compelling long-term investment, even if some longtime users might need time to adjust to the more feature-rich approach.

Battery, charging and connectivity

The OnePlus 13 houses a large 6000 mAh battery, enabled by new Silicon NanoStack battery technology. It supports 100W wired fast charging, capable of charging from 1 to 100% in just 36 minutes, and 50W wireless charging with a compatible AIRVOOC charger.

Using the wall charger, we were able to charge the phone in just 38 minutes - which is very impressive and close to the claims. What's more impressive is how OnePlus has cramped a 6000mAh cell in such a sleek form factor.

We still have to run an in-depth battery test to find how it fares in different use cases, but for now what we know is that it can easily last 7-8 hours for someone like me who is on his phone all the time doing work, watching videos, listening music, using Maps, or making calls.

For connectivity, apart from WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, etc, the OnePlus 13 is the first smartphone in India to support 5.5G, in partnership with Jio.

It introduces BeaconLink for walkie-talkie functionality via Bluetooth, with a range of up to 200 meters, and a future Chat feature for messaging and photo sharing via Bluetooth.

Overall Verdict

The OnePlus 13 is a significant step forward for the brand, offering a compelling mix of premium design, powerful performance, and innovative features. While the camera system shows improvement, it still trails slightly behind some competitors. The combination of excellent build quality, a top-tier display, and impressive charging capabilities make it a strong contender in the flagship space, especially considering the extended software support promise. At Rs 69,999, it's definitely a great value for money, and with some OTA updates expected, it might turn out to be the best choice as well.

Who is it for? This phone is ideal for users who prioritize performance and quick charging without compromising on premium design. It's particularly well-suited for power users who multitask heavily, gamers who need consistent performance, and tech enthusiasts who appreciate new features based on AI. The phone would also appeal to those who want a flagship experience but prefer a cleaner, less bloated software approach. The microfiber vegan leather option makes it an attractive choice for environmentally conscious users who still want premium materials.

Who shouldn't buy it: The OnePlus 13 might not be the best choice for mobile photography enthusiasts who demand the absolute best camera performance - while competent, the Vivo X200 might be a better option for dedicated photographers. Additionally, those who prefer a more compact phone might find its large screen size challenging for one-handed use.
